Not Made In America - Typical of what the 'freepers' send out BUT
what is Joe Smith supposed to do about this situation???

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA ) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG ). He put on a dress shirt ( MADE IN SRI LANKA ), designer jeans ( MADE IN SINGAPORE ) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA ).

After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA ) he sat down with his calculator ( MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN ) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA ) he got in his car ( MADE IN GERMANY ) filled it with GAS from Saudi Arabia and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia ), Joe decided to relax for a while, He sat in his sofa (made in China). He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL ) poured himself a glass of wine ( MADE IN FRANCE.! France !! ) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA ), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in .. AMERICA .....

Y'all gotta keep this one circulating, please!

1. Easy--Joe should v ote out Republicans!
Since they're the ones who are against any and all fair labor laws, anti-outsourcing agreements, etc.

Oh, you mean the Freeper chain letter doesn't get around to mentioning that?

2. There is a point to this

Of course the wine comment is just stupid, but we have over-outsourced our jobs. It really should have just about all the other countries as China though. I'm not opposed to international trade like Freepers are, but we have to have industry here too. Reagan's 'service economy' is bullshit - we should never be an economy of busboys and telemarketers, and that's where that leads.

3. Joe made the decision to purchase those particular products.
It's very difficult to wean out foreign-made products completely. But skillets are made in America, cars are made in America, Joe can sew his own clothes (not an easy task!) and I believe some clothes are still made in America, there are alarm clocks and sofas made in America, et cetera.

He can also go to a local computer center and have their personnel make a computer, but probably the parts are made in foreign countries. Yet still, if we're looking at whom do we pay labor costs to, there are options right here in America. The problem being, of course, the cost of wages.

Freepers want to keep the minimum wage down but they want their products cheap. Something's gotta give.

4. So that's why Joe Smith calls himself...
a free republican; he's a slave to his masters.

5. Items that originate from, or are specialties of, foreign countries should be...
...excluded, if this essay is to be taken seriously. Goods and services that have been outsourced for the sake of cheap labor and materials are relevant. Foreign sources of energy are fair game, too.

6. You left out two #1 made-in-America products
Later that night, Joe watched porn while wolfing down a cheeseburger.

7. (Insane) Conservative "Solution"?
I wouldn't be too surprised if there weren't a bunch of Republican/Conservatives thinking along these lines (even if they haven't thought it out--which is common for them)...

"Conservative Solution"? akin to Hitler's Final Solution... they're hoping for a world war. That would lead to the destruction of the rest of the world (who needs 6,574,214,228 people anyway?), including their "productive" capacity. Obviously they would want to leave some people in the rest of the world--and people capable of some modest productive/economic capacity--but only such that they would want, and be able to pay for, our leadership, managment, guidance, and products. If such a war involved the middle east, maybe, just maybe, we could lay claim to it as spoils of war. If the war reduced China sufficiently, perhaps then we could just claim that "all bets are off" with respect to the vast amount of national debt they hold. Just declare a new currency and *poof*, the rest of the world is screwed--and so long as there's a world war...

Of course, to do such a thing, the U.S. would have to invest hundreds or thousands of billions of dollars in it's military machine--including the development of a missile defense shield (after all, there are indeed other countries with nuclear weapons and the expertise to send them here). Indeed, to do such a thing, a U.S. government would have to have extraordinary powers over it's own populace--who might just include a bunch of pansies who would think that such a plan is pure insanity. To enable such a thing, a government would have to be able to listen to people's phone calls, search their homes, lock them away, identify all citizens, make the entire economy and monetary system operate by electronic means (no currency for exchange of goods), read their mail, etc... Certainly that's not anything good citizens wouldn't give up in exchange for safety from the gigantic, ubiquitous, ever-present and deadly threat of "terrorism" (al-qaeda).

It should be understood that to the ultra-wealthy, saturated in power, elites, chaos itself represents the greatest opportunity for vast increases in their power and wealth--and most of the risk will be delegated to the regular population...

Okay, taking off the Republican/Conservative fringe thinking hat (as well as the tin-foil liner)... one wonders if the world isn't headed for real problems.

Vast and rapidly growing population with limited resources... (rut-row)
Environmental destruction including Rapid Global Climate Change... (uh-oh)
Potential development and rapid global spread of a deadly pandemic... (ooo-eee)

In any case, things are going to get worse before they get better--and that's going to affect any country that's already used to a high-standard of living (and hurt the ones who can't adjust/adapt for whatver reason, whether it's because the people and their leaders are convinced of their own exceptionalism or rigid adherence to traditions in policies, government and society...) more than one that's used to having much less. Indeed just as heat spreads to areas that are cooler, economic prosperity, to some extent, in a free trade world will flow from an area of density to any other area that's ripe and capable.

Seems that for most folks, bracing for the hard times wouldn't be an outrageous or unwise thing to do. Not an easy thing; even knowing how to brace oneself isn't easy (or even possible in many cases). This would be the time to turn to one's deity and plead, assuming one has one. Meanwhile, getting a more populist, Democratic government in place would best serve the majority here.
