Border Barrier Accidentally Built on Mexican Soil
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 08:43 PM by DesertRat
COLUMBUS, N.M. (AP) - The 1.5-mile barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border was designed to keep cars from illegally crossing into the United States. There's just one problem: It was accidentally built on Mexican soil. Now embarrassed border officials say the mistake could cost the federal government more than $3 million to fix.

The barrier was part of more than 15 miles of border fence built in 2000, stretching from the town of Columbus to an onion farm and cattle ranch.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman said the vertical metal tubes were sunk into the ground and filled with cement along what officials firmly believed was the border. But a routine aerial survey in March revealed that the barrier protrudes into Mexico by 1 to 6 feet.

3. Well, just call it "foreign aid."
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 08:50 PM by TahitiNut
After all, compared to how much the U.S. has built on Iraq's "foreign soil," this is a nit.

:sarcasm: <-- for the KSOTO-challenged

4. WTF?!!?!!?
With all the technology, satellites, topographical surveys etc. It looks like
somebody would have checked and verified where the damn line was really supposed
to be. Hell, here in the country, we do not put up permanent fencing without
surveying so we can run 10 inches on the inside of the line as required by law - or
you share ownership of the fence with the adjoining property owner.

12. GEEZUS! They can't even build a damn fence on the correct property! Are they capable of doing
ANYTHING right? Honestly. I've never seen anything like this. It's like the Keystone Cops are in charge of everything in this country. My apologies to Keystone Cops.;)

13. Sounds like an invasion to me. . .
I think we should send our remaining military forces. . .um. . .would that be the Freepers? to face the Mexican army - and hope they don't march six feet into U.S. soil and re-claim the territory for Mexico.

14. Reminds me of a two panel cartoon. The first panel showed a crew
building a 10 foot fence and the second panel showed a sale at a Mexican hardware store for 12 foot ladders.
