Releasing the UN Global Warming Report in the Winter
Make that the typically coldest part of winter, so that most people who are freezing right about now are apt to think "I could use some of that heat right about now" and mix one part a general misunderstanding of the mechanics of Global Warming and one part emphasis on "by the year 2100"
rather than what's already happening...
Also, rush to release the report to the objection of many scientists who pointed out that the report failed to address recent massive ice melting...

Intentional?

5. Indeed Australia has serious problems
parts of Australia are suffering from severe drought to the point that in Queensland people will be forced to used recycled sewage water.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6308715.stm

<snip>

People in the Australian state of Queensland will soon have to start drinking water containing recycled sewage, the state premier has warned.

Premier Peter Beattie said he had scrapped a referendum on the issue, because there was no longer a choice.

He also warned other Australian states might eventually have to do the same because of mounting water shortages.

Water is already recycled in places like Singapore and the UK, but the idea is still unpopular in Australia.

But the country is currently suffering from a severe drought - the worst on record. Last week Prime Minister John Howard declared water security to be the biggest challenge currently facing Australia, and he announced a A$10bn ($7.7bn; £3.9bn) package to tackle the problem.

3. intentional?
do you mean politically? No

They released the information they had. These are scientists. Not politicians

Also, there are more reports to come during the next several months

Winter? Again, scientists, not politicians.

6. isn't the UN a political establishment?
I realize that this was a noble, international scientific effort. But considering how long many years it took to research it, I wonder why the big rush to release it now, despite objections by other scientists who were concerned that the report does not include new data that paints a much more serious scenario?

I found it interesting what great lengths Susan Solomon went to in order to avoid being political. I think it is a credit to the scientists to remain scientists and not give the Faux. et al. assholes more ammunition. By nature scientists are conservative, that does tend to downplay the urgency. Fortunately, most educated people understand this and the urgency. Now it is our job to push for this to be taken seriously, in or political structure, and to expose the right wing assholes for what they are, when they attack the facts.

This is a good start but not the end. There are more reports to follow.

13. It is good that further reports are soon due
and I am grateful that this one was even allowed to happen. At least it is getting major coverage, which is in itself amazing given the current media.

7. Its an old report
They said it would be updated soon. I think we will see something horrible happen within the next 5-10 years involving the glaciers on Greenland. I think they're in danger of giving way at any time.:scared:

12. I wear my tinfoil hat proudly.
I have seen far to many loony conspiracies turn out to be the truth...

But this op was more about a heads up regarding the possibility of freepers showing up and saying that Global Warming is BS.
