Brewton toddler killed during Rottweiler attack (one messed up story)
Brewton toddler killed during Rottweiler attack
By Kerry Whipple Bean

A tragic Sunday afternoon event has found a Brewton family at the center of attention.

Taylor Kitlica, an 18-month-old girl who lived with her family on McGougin Road was fatally attacked by a stray Rottweiler tied in the yard of the home around 5 p.m. Also injured in the Sunday attack was two-and-a-half-year-old William "T.J." Kitlica, brother of the girl. His injuries were not life threatening, according to Escambia County Sheriffs officials. He was treated at D.W. McMillan Hospital and released with minor bite wounds on his back.

....

According to Kitlica, the dog had wandered into the yard of their home less than an hour before the attack.

"The dog came to us," she said. "It had a collar on it and was well fed. We tied it up hoping to keep it from roaming away and getting lost. We hoped the owner would come by and see the dog and be able to get it back."

The owner, who is yet unknown, did not come to claim the dog before it made the fatal attack.

"We were just trying to do a neighbor a favor," Kitlica said. "And it took my baby."

That's just fucked up. No other way to say it.

1. Tied or chained dogs are a common theme in dog attacks.
Even normally well behaved dogs often become territorial and aggressive when they perceive that they have no avenue of escape.

2. My cousin's Rot attacked her youngest.
The little boy was around two or three at the time. The child went to pet the dog and it turned around and bit him on the face. The child lost his two front teeth and almost lost his eye. One of the dog's other teeth went into the boy's cheek and he had to spend a few days in the hospital when it became infected.

The only explanation they could come up with was that the dog must have found a piece of food that had been dropped on the ground and the baby happened to approach the dog at that moment. There was only one bite and all four canine teeth caused damage.

The dog and the boy had been raised together. There had never been any signs that the dog could be dangerous.

The boy is a teenager now.

3. So weird
These explanations for dog breeds that chew up children. The penchant for lethal dogs is hard to take. I took a dog for a walk and was threatened by a smug pit bull owner with a sick smile on his face. He was obviously enjoying the power that hideous creature gave him. Lethal dogs are the SUVs of pets.

4. There was a similar tragedy here recently
A five-year-old girl was killed by her uncle's pit bull.

5. Here in VA as well. 6-yr-old boy mauled to death by family's pit
bulls. Horrifying. I have no idea how the parents live with themselves.
