Did Bobby Kennedy "personally manage" Castro Assassination? (WaPo/CIA article)
Edited on Fri Jun-22-07 01:34 PM by KoKo01
(Is THIS item why the CIA suddenly is releasing the "Crown Jewels?".. Many DU'ers speculated about the timing and buried in the WaPo article is this...)

CIA to Air Decades of Its Dirty Laundry
Assassination Attempts Among Abuses Detailed

By Karen DeYoung and Walter Pincus
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, June 22, 2007; Page A01

The CIA will declassify hundreds of pages of long-secret records detailing some of the intelligence agency's worst illegal abuses -- the so-called "family jewels" documenting a quarter-century of overseas assassination attempts, domestic spying, kidnapping and infiltration of leftist groups from the 1950s to the 1970s, CIA Director Michael V. Hayden said yesterday.

-SNIP-

A New York Times article by reporter Seymour Hersh about the CIA's infiltration of antiwar groups, published in December 1974, was "just the tip of the iceberg," then-Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger warned Ford, according to a Jan. 3 memorandum of their conversation.

Kissinger warned that if other operations were divulged, "blood will flow," saying, "For example, Robert Kennedy personally managed the operation on the assassination of Castro." Kennedy was the attorney general from 1961 to 1964.

Worried that the disclosures could lead to criminal prosecutions, Kissinger added that "when the FBI has a hunting license into the CIA, this could end up worse for the country than Watergate," the scandal that led to the fall of the Nixon administration the previous year.

3. it would not surprise me
killing the man (men, rather) was not enough for them, they have to besmirch their reputations too.

I highly doubt we'll get much new information there, although some of it will at least be documentation of what some have been saying for decades: that the CIA has routinely disrupted and overthrown democracy since its inception, all in the name of anti-communism.

"overseas assassination attempts" indeed - I wonder if they'll release the info on the domestic ones too. I don't see why it would be such a stretch of the immagination for some that if they are willing to support/orchestrate a coup to stop a popular leftist leader elsewhere why they would refrain from doing the same here.

6. maybe adjusting my "tinfoil" .....it's a warning of what they've been doing
recently...with Walter Pincus (long rumoured to be tight with CIA) as the co-writer... Is this a veiled warning. But...then...it's just my tinfoil on too tight.

It's just too odd for this to be coming out now.

7. I was musing about this the other day.
The one outstanding feature of the Kennedy brothers is how current they still are in our minds. We judge them by today's standards, not those of 1960. We're talking 40 -45 years ago now, and across an amazing divide on society. The amazing thing is how quickly they changed in their attitudes toward civil rights and the military and intelligence communities. Whatever the faults of their youth, they certainly made up for it by ushering in new standards.

12. Woo HOO! Robert Kennedy jr. just refuted this on Tweety Matthews show just now!
He explained it all....Church Commmission found Nothing about his father's involvement...it was a Rogue Operation by One CIA AGENT. Colby hated RFK and spewed this to Kissinger which Kissinger then repeated after RFK's DEATH...

It's great and worth the watch in the middle of Tweety's show. Unfortunately you have to listen to Melanie Morgan....

It's at the end of the segment on Global Warming.

16. Walter Pincus: CIA stooge....I mean, asset?
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/MDpincus.htm
Pincus returned to the Washington Post in 1975 where specialized in writing about the CIA and the intelligence community. Pincus always defended the activities of the CIA and criticizedSeymour Hersh for his "advocacy journalism" when he tried to expose the illegal activities of the agency. He also condemned the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) and in February 1977, described it as "perhaps the worst example of Congressional inquiry run amok."

In 1979 Deborah Davis published Katharine the Great. Katharine Graham persuaded the publishers William Jovanovich, to pulp the book. As well as looking at the life of this newspaper proprietor, Davis explored the relationship between the CIA and the Washington Post. Davis also became the first journalist to expose Operation Mockingbird. She also named Walter Pincus as being one of the journalists willing to promote the views of the CIA.
