What's wrong with amusement parks? Another tragedy.
(CNN) -- A girl's feet were cut off Thursday when a free-fall thrill ride malfunctioned at the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Amusement Park in Louisville, Kentucky, police said.

A cord wrapped around the 16-year-old's feet and severed them at her ankles while she was on the "Superman Tower of Power," a police dispatcher said. The girl was taken to a local hospital.

An unidentified witness told CNN affiliate WLKY she saw a cable on the ride snap.

"The people on the ride just came and hit the ground," she said. "When I got up there, the lady she was just sitting there, and she didn't have no legs. ... And she was just there, calm, probably in shock from everything."

2. why do Americans feel a need to pump adrenalin through their bodies?
that's the real question.

Cause it's inevitable that mishaps will occur with these rides no matter safety procedures or regulations.

Really, is it because people feel too safe? They've got so much stimulation they need extremes?

If you want a thrill, move to NOLA for hurricane season.

Sorry, but this is something alien to me- thrill seeking on rides.

I have a hard time relating.

5. I actually find adrenaline to be kind of painful
Sometimes if I've had a terrifying nightmare or a near miss with a car accident, when I get that surge of adrenaline it feels like needles under my skin. I guess maybe it's the amount or intensity, because when I play sports and I get pumped up I don't have that problem. Only when it's fear related. I like speed, but I just can't get myself to go on those rides because the fear factor is too high. Guess that's a good thing.

8. I tell my kids that I get a surge of terror just from waking up in the morning.
I don't need no stinking thrill rides to make
ME sick to my stomach.

I also don't like waiting in lines.
The kids like it, though.

If I HAVE to go, for their sakes,
I now choose water parks, at least
I stay cool.

11. Just catch a plane and lookd down..
And think that the plane could go down at any time... That gets your adrenaline up. Not advisable, but...

3. More corporate corner cutting on maintenance and inspections..........
in order to increase profits; it's ALWAYS save the almighty dollar for the CEO and wall street at the customers' and employees' expense.

4. You're right
The first things corporations throw out the window when cutting costs are quality control and safety.

12. Redundancy in general... That's what goes first..
Because the effects of its elimination are not seen until something unusual happens and then the systems are not ready to deal with it

6. An observation from a friend...
I could repeat an observation from a friend that dangerous amusement park rides are a good thing for this country because they get rid of mouth-breathing repukes, but I won't. That would be cruel.

7. As someone that worked 3 years and was supervisor of customer service at a Six Flags
Amusement parks are fun. Accidents happen and this is a tragic, tragic accident. God I can't imagine. Overall, amusement parks are safe, it's not like these things happen every day. It's the carnival type rides you have to watch out for. The park I worked has been open for over 30 years, and there's been 1 guest and 2 workers killed total.

9. Most standard amusement parks have pretty good safety records.
But do you really care when you are the one in a million visitor to get their legs cut off?
