The daily, hourly, blood-letting in Bush's mad occupation and total destruction of Iraq continues. US military sources say yet another 14 American troops have died in the past 48 hours. The "official" total of US military dead now stands at 3,545. The number of wounded, maimed and psychologically devoured is in the tens of thousands. The rising death toll for Iraqis also continues; so far this week alone nearly 200. And what is the purpose of all this death? Is it simply to satisfy the filthy ambitions of a handful of US imperialists to whom human life is meaningless? Is it about oil? Is it power? Is it some sort of fundamentalist Christianity at work that insists enough blood and gore in the Middle East will satisfy their Redeemer and bring the Prince of Peace, smiling and softly chanting Pater noster, qui es in caelis: sanctificetur Nomen Tuum; to the assembled, red-eyed faithful?

This invasion, war, occupation - call it what you will - is blowing to pieces whatever moral authority the rest of the world ascribed to the US. The result of Bush and Cheney's madness will be decades of horror, chaos and death in the Middle East as well as a rushing river of attempts to bring the same insanity to the US, Europe and the Americas.

This descent into collective anxiety and chronic fear is to be the true legacy of the Bush "presidency," and yet the Democrats now in power will NOT follow the instructions found in the US Constitution and remove this criminal from the office he and his thugs so cunningly stole.

Can we survive another 18 months of this?

74. I was handed a bag of 'need to use' pears.

In a quiche pan, I poured 1/3C.melted butter and then sprinkled with 1C brown sugar. Then I got some big red cherries out of the freezer and lined outside edge of pan. Then pinwheeled the sliced pears around the entire pan, ending with cherries in the middle. To top it off, I stirred a boxed brownie mix with oil, eggs and whiskey. Poured on top of fruit and cooked. Served with frozen yogurt. Darn Outrageous!!

It's getting harder for her to get around. She's missing her right rear leg, and that puts a lot of stress on the left leg. We've had her for over 14 years. She was fully grown then, but had just recently lost the leg. She still has the phantom limb syndrome - when she wants to scratch her right ear she scrunches up her face, tilts her head, and twitches her right hip as though the leg's still there. It's so endearing. We reach over and noogie her ear for her.
