Congress: Kids Don't Deserve Health Care
Congress is sending a pretty clear message that they think it's acceptable that children in the United States don't have access to quality health care. So long as Bush is in the White House, single-payer universal coverage for all Americans may not be a realistic goal. Making sure all children are insured, however, is feasible.

Legislation to expand health care coverage for all children could garner enough bipartisan support to render moot the bullshit "we don't have the votes" defence. Would Bush really be enough of an asshole to veto such a bill? If so, make him do it. His GOP buddies would love the great things that would do for their 2008 campaigns.

So why the inaction in DC? If they didn't have problems getting that war funding bill passed already what's the hold up on this important issue? There a few bills parked in committee right now which would address this, but evidentially it's not a priority for our friends in the Beltway. One can only be left to conclude that they don't care.

2. A few bills relating to S-CHIP have been quietly introduced.
But on the whole, they've done virtually nothing to advance the agenda on health care. It's disgraceful.

3. You think it has anything
to do with the fact that once they've been elected as congresspeople, they and their families (including children) get health care coverage for the rest of their lives?

Maybe if they had to face the same thing that Americans had to face they'd have a difference of opinion?

6. It's too bad the varsity squad can't play as well as the JV team.
We've got a lot of solid Democrats like Gregoire at the state and local level, but for whatever reason the folks we send to Washington, DC just aren't that interested in getting anything done.
