Why shouldn't our Adminis be there? It's a Board for Democrats. Are you saying that Progressive Blogosphere doesn't invite you guys to events? Or, that you don't participate because you feel that DU isn't a Blog. :shrug:

What's disturbing about this is that so Many DU'ers post Blogs here giving them traffic and most DU'ers are active in Progressive or Mainstream Dem activities and organizations. Why should DU be viewed as incorrigible when we give these guys high traffic?

TOTALLY SUPERIOR to the other formats, which in turn makes use superior to bloggers and chatroom users. But that's just MY not so humble opinion. I like the format so much that I got the program and use it on a few sites I own.

I think it's the format that makes people leery. Message boards are kinda "old school" when compared to those new-fangled blog things. Bear in mind that we were prompted to start DU after we found Free Republic in 2000 and were shocked that there wasn't a big online meeting place for liberals - hard to believe that the wingnuts ruled the web in those days. Obviously we're different from FR in terms of quality and, er, overall intelligence, but I think some of that stigma remains - we're viewed as a left-wing Free Republic.

DU is a big site - someone posted the traffic stats of the 25 biggest blogs (on all topics, not just politics) on the web the other day, I compared them to our stats and if we were considered a blog we would have been on the list. But this site isn't associated with a single "front page" blogger. It has Admins, but people don't come here to read the fabulous insights of Skinner, EarlG and Elad - they come because DU has got a bit of everything.

It's definitely a different world from a blog and I can understand why people wouldn't necessarily consider DU's Admins for inclusion if they were inviting bloggers to something. That's cool. We're shy and retiring types anyway :)

I think that having the level of traffic that would put us within the top 25 blogs overall if we were in fact a blog, is pretty damn cool. Maybe it's because it's the first place I frequented, but I like it better because there are so many independent things going on at one time -- and you can read what you want and ignore what you want. The blogs like FDL and DK, although I like them, are too structured and one-dimensional. DU has more variety and doesn't focus on just a few key front-page posters like the "blogs" do.
