EU ... not really interested in CIA secret prisons investigation

How else are we to interpret the rather dismissive claims of the European Union's Justice and Security Commissioner, Franco Frattini? Read:

"LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) - The word of anonymous witnesses is not enough to prove that the CIA ran secret prisons in Poland and Romania, the European Union's top security official said in an interview.

But Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini told Reuters late on Tuesday he would seek further clarification from both countries after Council of Europe investigator Dick Marty said last week he was certain they had hosted such jails." (Reuters)

Let me see if I understand this... people who are likely to go to jail or worse are to provide testimony to what is already documented in order for the allegations to be taken seriously by the EU? Or is it more likely that given that a number of EU member countries are involved, it would be easier and less - what is the word? embarrassing - to cover up the whole mess?

Frattini apparently did not read the many news reports as well as the findings of a number of human rights NGOs and Dick Marty's excellent summary and documentation. Nor did Frattini apparently read the investigative notes of the 10 member team dispatched to Poland, who did interview people on the record even.

Most importantly, Frattini apparently has not noticed the local accounts, airport whistleblowers, and airport records documenting the extraordinary rendition flights.
