1. It's after midnight there! Just tuned in; had no clue they were still in session.
But per Barney Frank, the 'no's' have it. 2008 Homeland Security Spending. Earmark probs?

Motion to rise-used on protests.

over the way earmarks will be handled but I was hoping someone knew more. Lots of nicely heated air, lol.

2. All spending measures must originate in the House.
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 11:19 PM by TahitiNut
They're working on the 2008 Budget legislation - the Fiscal Year 2008 runs from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008. The specific piece they're voting on now is the Homeland Security Department. It doesn't look like it's passing like the GOP wants it.

22. Yes, yes they are! Obey's said (much) earlier that they (the Dems)
have been defending the budget for this Administration. Basically said, 'we're done! Why should WE stand in the way of criticism of this Administration's budget from his own party?'

The political facts are that the 'traditional hardcore Cons' are desperately trying to ummm...go back to their roots of *cough* fiscal responsibility *cough* and blame it all on those dirty, rotten tax and spend Democrats! But the reality is the budget being criticized came from Bush.

and end it with the disingenuousness of the Cons sudden epiphany of the fiscal responsibility God after six years in the Majority.

7. I've never understood why/when Congress 'go so late' in their sessions
I understand 'sneaking something under the radar of the public' (that's really sad to say), but is it really *normal* to go so late into the night?

I need some 'edjamacation' here please, when someone has some time to explain it.

Sorry that I can't answer your question. BTW, if I've never told you before, thank you for being such a truly faithful 'watch-person' :patriot:

25. It will repeat. Don't miss it. Conyers said it was the best hearing he has experienced
in his 40 years in the Congress.

It really placed the Civil Rights struggle into a context of continuing struggle. One important point was the continuing cover up of the bad actors by bad actors, like FBI tapes and files "disappearing." The struggle goes on, and we have a ways to go when the DoJ is still not forthcoming.

Too bad you got in on the very end. If you can record it, it repeats in about 3-5 hours in the middle of the night.

26. you'll be seeing a LOT about this in the M$M, as it makes the dems look BAD on earmarks.
CNN/MSNBC, one of them, had on a guy from Public Citizen who castigated dems for hiding source of earmarking, or something like that.

they played a clip of Obey saying they'd get to that later, before the summer recess, but the Nader guy wasn't buying, and ripped into dems for practicing business as usual

I don't know the details, but the TV cast the PUGS as the good guys, dems as corrupt ones

surprised?
