'Sicko' spawns frenzy over Moore in Cannes
Source: USAToday.com

CANNES, France (AP) — In Cannes, Michael Moore is a rock star — mobbed by fans, assailed by cameras and forced to wolf down a plate of pasta between his latest interview and his next live TV appearance.

Moore's documentary Sicko— a ferocious attack on the U.S. health care industry — is the talk of the film festival, and he is hot property. Moore caught his breath Monday to tell The Associated Press about the urgent need to reform America's health system, and why he thinks the Bush administration is out to get him.

"It's a government that's funded by the pharmaceutical companies and the health insurers, so I'm not surprised they're coming after me," said Moore, who is being investigated by the U.S. Treasury Department for traveling to Cuba for one of the segments in his film.

"I'm surprised they're doing it so soon. I didn't think they'd want to draw attention to the movie this early on."

2. Moore is certainly no fool and knows he couldn't afford
publicity like the Feds are giving him.

Healthcare is going to turn out to be a massive hot button issue in 2008, and I sincerely hope the Democrats aren't going to be afraid to push it. Hard. Repeatedly.

The insurance companies have totally lost any right to be anywhere in the healthcare mix in this country. They have abrogated their responsibility to their clients, with occasionally fatal results. Their mania to suck profit out of sick people has just about destroyed a system that was once the envy of the world in delivering health insurance to the most people without government intervention.

The health insurance companies need to find another scam. It's past time to expand Medicare to cover us all. We can accept no less. Our lives depend on it.

5. Pelosi and Reid - push healthcare - you got to be kidding me.
Medicare is horrible, with the deductibles the patient pays. Then the supplemental has their own set of deductibles and they don't pay either.

I can't afford to go to the doctor anymore with this Medicare.

8. On the other hand -- my out of network mammogram
used to cost me about $400 even with out of net insurance. Now I am a geezer at 65 and the same service - Medicare and plan B and out of supplemental plan network -- with my necessary TWO ultrasounds after the digital mammogram due to history etc. cost $17.72. This oldie is thankful. My annual helath care costs given Soc. Sec. deductions and supplemental payments end up making this a huge bonus, given that I will ONLY go to this diagnostic service no matter what the cost, given its expertise and my own and my family's history.

10. Save some money
Skip the digital mammogram and go to a doctor who does the traditional analog mammogram.

Latest long term research shows digital is less accurate in post-menopausal women, analog is far superior.

6. Now let's give credit where credit is due.
It's not only the insurance companies sucking extreme profit from the sick. It is also the pharmaceutical companies and the medical industry getting whipped up into a feeding frenzy at the thought of sick new clients being added to their billing department.

It stopped being about health care a long time ago, when the health care industry's profits became the most important oath to honor.

7. He's just a neighbor - a good one - in northern lower Michigan
Despite the fact that he could live anywhere, he has the eminent good sense to live in northern lower Michigan near Lake Michigan, just about as purty as it gets anywhere. He does a lot for the community, and his annual film festival is a huge hit.
