On behalf of this soldier and all those in the same position, I am angry and sad. How can this government and administration condone this?

Please read this story from the Boston Globe today.

Who can then volunteer or better yet be forced to re-up.

5. I Thought 3 Months Was Normal?
I thought after basic training, which I thought was 3 months, you are ready to be called upon to serve your country. I always thought that was the case anyway, but I guess not.

6. Completely depends on the job series.
When I was in (quite a while ago), basic was 8 weeks. After that is AIT - the training for your specific job series. For me, that was an additional 20 months, before I was even qualified to do my job in the field - so a total of 22 months training. But for other jobs, it can be way shorter.

7. We got 12 weeks in boot camp and 4 weeks "infantry" training. How to kill your fellow human.
At least in those days, the Marine Crotch didn't spend much time trying to tell us that they were training us for anything much more than being inexpensive murderers for Uncle Sam.
