DU this poll. Gore vs Thompson
Looks like an organized effort to tilt results by Republican activists toward Fred Thompson is underway, please vote and ask others to vote in this poll.

The Jackson (Tennessee) Sun is running a poll pitting Al Gore against Fred
Thompson. Thompson is currently ahead nearly 2 to 1. Please, take a moment to go
to the link and vote for Al Gore.

10. Ooo, losing an internet poll. I'm quaking in my boots.
I have wasted ten seconds of my life and voted in that poll. That's ten seconds I'll never get back.

3. Oh come on ...
there have only been 3000 votes.

Once all the people who did NOT stay up all doing crack, wake up, Thompson will get killed in this poll.

Cheers

6. How about the demographics...
I think that the demographics of this paper probably lean towards Thompson. The up side is that the information age can help level that playing field quickly...go vote!

:)

17. Very true.
How big is Jackson, TN? I never heard of it before. It could be the most conservative city in the state.

It's also a bogus poll question to begin with: Would you vote for two one of two people who haven't declared they're even running? I'll bet most of the locals don't even bother to vote in such a light-weight poll--if they even know it exists online.

18. It's Tennessee, what were you expecting?
Tennessee isn't even a swing state. I know he's from there, but.....

I voted but I'm not too worried about this poll.

25. Jackson is in SW TN 60 miles E of Memphis, Pop. 60,000+
It is a sleepy town that is home to a few religious colleges, and is old south conservative. But the main point of interest is TN and it's shift from a blue state to red during the Reagan era. Far eastern TN was always Republican, but rest of state was true blue Democrat. Being the buckle of the Bible Belt, TN has a church on every corner, and the promise of the Religious Right's infusion into the Reagan campaign heralded the huge swing to the right and has remained there since. However, Nashville and Memphis remain islands of liberalism and progressives. Al Gore for various reasons despite his hugely popular Senator father, has never connected with the people of his state. He has been so terribly misunderstood, whereas Thompson is a "Movie Star" and hopes of another Reagan glazes their vision.

A Presidential campaign where both nominees are former Senators from Tennessee?

And *both* enter the race "late", usurping all the other candidates?

30. He completed Gore's terms as TN Senator then won one term
For context...I don't know the details about who he ran against, but his 'win' would have coincided with the "Republican Revolution" of '94. He claims he only chose one term "because he couldn't get anything done in Washington". :eyes:
