Breaking: Levin and Reed Call for Hadley Firing
Breaking: Levin and Reed Call for Hadley Firing
by Mahler3
Thu Jun 07, 2007 at 08:26:28 AM PDT
During the Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute War Czar hearing(C-Span 3 right now)Jack Reed and Levin have just called for National Security Advisor Steven Hadley to be fired.

Mahler3's diary :: ::
Here's how it went down (transcribed from Hearing):

Reed: I'm going to support you but I don't think I'm doing you any favors. My sense is that your appointment is a devestating indicment of the nation security apparatus of the White House. What you're being asked to do is what Mr. Hadley and Dr. Rice have supposed to been doing the last few years. Identify problems, coordinate resouces, bring it to the attention of the President, get presidential direction, and that has been abyismal. I'm afraid your position will be someone there to take the blame, but to not really have the kind of acess to the President to get the resources you need to do the job. I presume you'll be reporting to Mr. Hadley?

Lute: No, sir. I'll reporting to the President and coordinating with Mr Hadley.

Reed: And Mr Hadley will be reporting to the President independently?

Lute: On matters outside Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes sir.

Reed: That I find interesting, Frankly Iraq, Afghanistan, and related to that Iran are the most critical foriegn issues we face and the National Security Advisor of United States has taken his hands of that and given it.. to you. Is that your understanding?

Lute:Sir, that's the design.

Reed:Well, then he should be fired. Because..frankly If he's not capable of being the individual responsible for handling those duties and passes it on to someone else. I think if the President's serious he should fire Mr. Hadley and replace him with a civilian not a military officer, and also if he didn't do that replace General Pace with you.

After Reed finished his line of question Levin, the chairman of Armed Services came back and called for Hadley's firing as well.

2. So, they're asking bush to fire him?
Do they think he'll do it if they say "please?"

6. No Shrub won't listenl, but if he has given Hadley's duties and
responsibilities to someone else, it sure does sound like they don't need Hadley anymore, huh?

7. You don't need to convince me of that. I'm just wondering if things are so bad...
...that we're getting excited when a Senator merely suggests the President fire a blatantly incompetent crony rather than making him do so.

10. There's no way to FORCE him to do anything! I think we all get
excited when we hear ANYBODY actually tell the truth! It's such a rare occasion ya know.

11. Actually, Congress has the power to force him out of office.
They just can't seem to be bothered with the idea beyond a handful of people.

12. Gotta have a super majority vote to do that. You may not like it, but
right now, there just aren't enough Pub votes to get that SM!

13. Oh, really? Well, better not even try, then.
What the fuck, man? That vote doesn't come until AFTER a great deal of investigation, not before. You have no idea how they'll vote when that time comes, and counting votes now is as dumb as counting chickens before they hatch. It's not prudent to avoid impeachment for that reason, it's cowardly to avoid their duty for that excuse.

16. You're right. The vote doesn't come until AFTER investigation!
Think about your argument. The basis of our entire judicial system is INVESTIGATE FIRST, CHARGE when you have proof!

We may firmly felieve we KNOW Shrub had committed high crimes and misdemeanors, but knowing it in your gut doesn't make it provable!

Think about all the prople who have been released from prison after DNA has proven they were innocent. At the time, the DA and at least one jury ALL believed that person was guilty too!

Then there's the other side of that same coin. If you know any DA's any of them will tell you about cases where they KNEW one perticular suspect was GUILTY, but he just couldn't prove it.

It's the investigation and the PROOF that will convince Pubs too that this AH has to go, but you have to do the ground work FIRST!

17. Impeachment proceedings ARE the investigation.
You're still justifying cowardice. Even if you don't know how impeachment works, you can bet those in Congress do.

18. Yes, but you have to have probable cause, and simple suspicion
is NOT probable cause.

Go back and check the whole process that preceeded the Nixon impeachment. You'll see what I mean.

Stop trying to justify cowardice.

20. Haul His Ass Up To The Hill
This slimeball needs to get the same spotlight Gonzo has. Hopefully Senator Levin will call him to testify and justify his salary...if he's not "advising" the president, then what is he doing? Then it opens to door to what surely is the politicizing of both the DOD and State Department...areas where Hadley's been active since Day One.

While losing Bartlett...a master liar and spinner was un-expected, Hadley's carried a lot of water for this regime and here's a chance to put him under the national microscope and compell him to explain why he failed in the planning of the Iraq invasion and the subsequent occupation...especially with all the billions that were thrown his way.

It's time the Democrats used their limited power of the pulpit to bring forward more and more of these war criminals and start the process of investigation their roles in the destruction of our country.

21. Just listened on CSPAN radio
That was astounding. They're all basically saying to Lute, "Well, we like you, but why the hell are we hiring you to do Hadley's job?"

Webb also went down that line of questioning though I don't recall if he specifically said Hadley should step down.
