i just don't understand the hoopla around a mostly meaningless immigration bill
does anyone honestly believe that ANY of the illegal immigrants in this country are going to step forward to comply with the terms of the "landmark" legislation...?
it seems like a monumental waste of time and money, IMHO.

can anyone explain to me why i should be anything other than underwhelmed by it all?

1. I think Dems ought to treat it as a Republican thing.
The Goopers are tearing themselves up over it. We should enjoy the popcorn.

Problem is, it's co-sponsored by Ted, so we have to at least pretend like it actually matters.

2. In theory there will be greater enforcement?
But of course the real point to the immigration bill, what makes it interesting, is that it is exposing the difference between the corporate blueblood Conservatives and the Dominionist nativist base Conservatives.

3. To respond to:
..."does anyone honestly believe that ANY of the illegal immigrants in this country are going to step forward to comply with the terms of the "landmark" legislation...?"

I don't know enough about the bill to know what the ramifications would be if an illegal doesn't step forward. Assuming it's deportation (never will happen imho) why would an illegal comply? It's costly in their time....learning English and expensive monetarily. I just wish the 1986 immgration legislation would be enforced.....go after the employers. I think that is in the best interest of legal immigrants and citizens alike.

it is a wedge issue the oligarchy is trying out to keep dividing the people. The religiously insane wack job wedge issues have lost most of their steam.

8. So once they become "legal" will they have to be paid minimum wage?
Pretty soon if the "illegals" can't be exploited then Americans are going to start clammering for those jobs themselves. Americans won't work for the money illegals will but once they become legal they will have to be paid legal wages..Then they will be competition instead of helpers.

11. Anything that does that is music to my ears.
If we can't get impeachment, I'll settle for the complete and utter destruction of the Republican trash and subhumanity that has poisoned our country.
