I'll just say this and drop it like a rock.
My kid is an NCO over there. Now I haven't talked to him since last month - but he said this to me. TO ME - that I don't know the orders, the order of battle - a lot of things he will not, cannot talk about. That the "surge" - it could have a chance.

I am only really knowedgable about 19th century warfare personally - so that should be taken into consideration. And I said - kid - if I take a mound of clay in my hand and squeeze I can put pressure on it - but we know it will eventually squeeze tru my fingers too. SO if that is true - you better have a lot of fingers. So you duck first, shoot first and don't volunteer for anything. And the army sold you down the river twice so far. SO you better think hard.

He is a good little soldier boy - I hope not so gulliable anymore.

But he did say that. And I stand with what I said.

He just wants to get out of there - he did his time - more. He wants to go home. One way or another.

But you should know - there is clearly propaganda being handed out in great doses.

Joe

5. Problem is it may work in PARTS of Iraq
But where there is not the large force of troops, problems are climbing there.

7. I say this every chance I get...
I wish to God I was wrong about Iraq.

I wish Chimpy McFuckstain's plan would, magically, work tomorrow, and that Peeance and Freeance would auto-magically work its wonders Over There.

Best to your son. May he come home safe and sound.

But I went thru a few wars and all that.

Probably not.

I am prepared - I don't think my wife is.

I watch the door now.

18. The first time it was.
The second time he went I am looking at CO stuff. Just not able to sell it.

This time - just a premonition of his death. You only get so much luck in your life, you know?

I can't see beyond that.

He has come so close so many times - how much luck you get- you know??

I appreciate what you say you know - there isn't anything anyone can say that blocks that premonition - lived thru too many family going to too many wars for that - just there as a parent. You know - I understand something I don't want my wife to ever understand. I know what it is to watch your door for the wrong people - I really know.

Thank you,

Joe

13. NCO's really have to believe don't they?
Otherwise how do they motivate their troops? It's not their place to question what they're told is it? The shame is that they were unlucky enough to enlist when this dipshit is Commander In Chief.

No offense meant to you or your son Joe. I appreciate his service and his dedication. I hope that he makes it home soon.

20. I could never take offense to comments -
Hell -I respect them.

You are right you know - he is just a little sgt boy - and he is. But that meass he listens to the other kids very closely. He has to.

Man -my parents and my uncles - they commanded the war - last war - and they knew - listen to the nco's carefully. Cause that is really the pulse of the service.

SO I believe that.

14. Please do not vote this post.
This is a more -I am going to get this out so I never have to talk about it again - type post.
I ask him - who are the kids going to vote for - and he said Clinton. I said why. And its cause they think she can end the war faster. My jaw dropped in disbelief.

I told him I think Gore will run - and he said - no way. I said what if that is true. He said that is different.

Look I know he is just one kid that represents one platoon in this war - I know. BUT Gore will carry the miltary IMO- he will carry a lot of conservatives too. There are pirnciples here we have in common that are very strong.

I will never speak for them again - everything else is just my opinion - but know where they are coming from - they just want to go home now.

Joe

15. Oh, Joe
What a worry. My Nephew is visiting from his base in Tennesee. He is supposed to go back in September for a second tour. I asked him about the first tour and all he would say is that he thought it was getting better. I think they have to believe they are making a difference and that things are better. He knows my politics and that I love DU. I just don't press him and he always says no to running off to Canada. He says they won't let your do that any more Aunt Leslie. He was stationed in (I'm going to sound out the spelling) Ma-ma de-a which is where that 14y/o girl was raped and her family killed by marines. I just don't think it sounded like it was getting that much better. Best of blessings for you and your son. Thank you both for your service.

19. No - here me carefully -
They are just pushing bullshit to get a result -really.

How easy is it to bend a 19 year old - really.

That IS happeneing.

Man - there are so many priests in my family I thought it could be done with him - no fucking way.

And I really tried - wish the vatican was as good about war as they are at abortion - total pipe dream.

Understand - they are priming those dumb kids -they really are. Counter it. What religion are you - use it as a weapon. Thats what they do you know - turn reality inside out.

22. I'm more of an agnostic but spiritual type
My nephew is Catholic from his mom's side and one of her brothers is a Priest. We like to say Father Uncle John. He is such a tender hearted kid, too. He came back on antidepressants. When he went to the base pharmacy they requested a certificate of need. I did get that much out of him. I thought he just got back from Iraq. Doesn't that speak for itself? Oddly, I have met some Catholics that are Democrats. Well, one. A nurse. She hates the war and she and her husband, who was a math professor, volunteered at a local soup kitchen. Good folks.

23. If we are catholics - then we better stand up
This is so against our religion.

I think - the Vatican just makes passing references - maybe they should go to hell too.

Not us. We all understood that least of your brother teaching - so we better do what is right here.

Even if we go down in flames.

There is only one right. And that doesn't mean we win - just that we stood up for right.
