Cutting off funds would not end the Iraq occupation.

Cutting off extra funds for Iraq would not end this occupation; the Cheney administration would just shift funds from other parts of the military and other parts of the government in order to continue the occupation.

First thing on the chopping block would be to stop building ships and submarines in Bath, Maine and Groton, Connecticut. This would put huge pressure on Democratic congressmen and senators in those states and would probably give JoeMentum enough cover to fully go GOP.

Cheney would also freeze or reduce pay of current members of the armed forces. Cheney would also delay the rotation of troops home citing lack of funds.

The GOP media machine would show soldiers dying because they lacked the funds to fight a war.

Shift money from Afghanistan to Iraq and claim they we closing in on Bin Laden.

The media whores on TV and radio would be blaming calling Democrats traitors, etc.

Cheney and the GOP would like nothing more than to shift the blame of failure in Iraq onto the laps of the Democrats.

The ONLY way to end this war is to gain a larger Democratic Majority in the House and Senate and win the White House in ’08 with a candidate willing to leave Iraq.

Nothing short of that will due.

1. But it would deprive them of their fig leaf.
As far as media manipulation goes, most people are becoming inured to that. It's not the tool it was, say, 7 years ago. Too many lies have been made public, too many people are canceling their papers and skipping the national evening news.
