Fred Thompson: Registered Foreign Agent, 20-Year Lobbyist, S&L Criminal
Fred Thompson: Registered Foreign Agent, Career Lobbyist (20 Years), Key Player in the historical $150 Billion 1980's Banking Crime and the corporate media's "All American Guy".

Please help spread the word early on about Fred Thompson. Will you? I think that he's the candidate that Karl Rove will be helping out in '08.

It's important that folks know that this new darling of the Republican Party, who they hail as a "man of the people" spent more than half of his adult career as a paid lobbyist in Washington. One of the hallmarks of Fred Thompson's career as a lobbyist was his work to secure the Savings & Loan DeRegulation Act.

Yeah, that's his greatest contribution to this country: the savings and loan catastrophe. Wikipedia describes that fiasco this way: it was "the largest and costliest venture in public misfeasance, malfeasance and larceny of all time. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around USD$150 billion, about $125 billion of which was consequently and directly subsidized by the U.S. government, which contributed to the large budget deficits of the early 1990s. The concomitant slowdown in the finance industry and the real estate market may have been a contributing cause of the 1990-1991 economic recession."

Every taxpayer took a huge hit because of Mr. Thompson's greedy lobbying efforts, which by the way, also financially benefited a very sleezy Senator from Arizona, John McCain, who barely escaped criminal indictment by the skin of his teeth.

Now $150 Billion seems to me, even after all these years, to still be a hell of a lot of money. How much did Fred take from the Fed? What was Thompson's total take?

And why is it that Fred Thompson still gets a hallway pass on his nefarious, dirty career as a lobbyist for twenty years. T-w-e-n-t-y Y-e-a-r-s!

Putting his adult "working" career in perspective (Fred hates work, by the way): Those twenty years of boozing and schmoozing politicians to do the biddings of his clients far dwarfs his time as an on-again/off again actor and product huckster in television commercials. Those twenty years dwarf his time as an elected official as well.

The corporate political talking heads and pundits that smugly question the "experience" of Barack Obama in droned cadence every chance they can sure turn a blind eye to the only real "experience" that Fred Thompson has really ever had: bribing public officials for special favors for his corporate and foreign employers.

Oh, and did I mention that Fred Thompson, that "all American who poses in a pick-up truck" also was an official "registered foreign agent" operating here for years, as well. Somehow, I doubt that Mr. Thompson passed out the checks to his purchased lawmakers from a pick-up. Do you?

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Fred has now had to ask his own son, Daniel, to step down from his shell political action committee that was little more than a legal framework created so Thompson continue to extort his corporate buddies into providing his son a "living". Like the true crook that he is, Fred Thompson has quietly kept his P.A.C. active for years since leaving politics to keep those funds still coming in. By the way, Fred's P.A.C. only gave out $66,000 while his son got raked in over $178,000 for himself.

The corporate media has "clued us in" as to when we will know that Fred is serious about running: when he hits the road in his "red pick up truck" in his new role "acting" as a man of the people.

What a farce! Fredd will need to slip out of one of his many fine tuxedoes and into his stage "farm duds", as he slips out of one of his many luxury cars and into his "old pick-up truck". It reminds me of Mr. Haney and his truck from Green Acres and we sold what a huckster he was!

Tell your friends about Fred Thompson, will you?

'Law & Order' And Lobbying

By: Kenneth P. Vogel
April 2, 2007 05:19 PM EST

Republicans pining for a Fred Thompson presidential bid contend the "Law & Order" star would make a strong candidate because of his experience as a senator, federal prosecutor and Watergate investigation counsel, as well as his conservative credentials and fame as a television and movie actor.

But supporters rarely focus on another hat he wore before and after his eight years in the Senate: lobbyist.

The role could be an issue if he seeks to move from his current flirtation with running, which has generated escalating poll numbers and buzz, to actually running, which would subject him to a heightened level of scrutiny.

Over about two decades of lobbying (during which he also acted and practiced law), Thompson made nearly $1.3 million and represented clients including a British reinsurance company facing billions of dollars in asbestos claims, Canadian-owned cable companies, and deposed Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, according to government documents and media accounts from his first run for the Senate in 1994.

Thompson Off the Sidelines

By Robert D. Novak
Thursday, May 31, 2007; Page A19

Fred Thompson sat at the end of a long table in The Monocle restaurant on Capitol Hill on Tuesday for dinner with some 20 fellow conservatives, mostly journalists. He sent two signals. First, he sounded like a man who has decided to run for president, as his advisers indicated yesterday. Second, his candidacy will be different from other Republicans, in both substance and style.

I agree, this man doesn't like to work. He does not have a history of dedicated civic service.

He uses this line all the time, apparently:

"After eight years in Washington, I longed for the reality and sincerity of Hollywood.” Ooh, Fred, thassa kneeslapper!

Here's what he said to TIME Magazine in Oct 2002:

IS THERE ANY JOB IN POLITICS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU GET BACK IN THE GAME?

I can't think of one. (Laughs.)

He's simply not driven by any intense desire to serve or vision for this country. And his history of doing-it-the-easy-way - combined with his lymphoma, an illness that leaves you exhausted - suggests he would be a highly uninvolved executive, dependent on whatever Cabinet he brings in to take hold of the reins.

K&R.

The Dems need to focus on this guy. I think he's going to win the repub nomination. I work with 2 right wingers and they think he is the second coming. They think he's a "tough guy" that "won't take any shit from them gays and n-----s". They feel he'll take this country back ,according to them, "to the way it was in the 50's, which is how this country is supposed to be". Typical regressive party thought.

33. Tweety was so busy fawning over Thompson last night on Hardball
that he even tried to twist Fred's lobbying career into a positive. It was sickening. The Reagan comparison was brought up ad nauseam, and Tweety got all upset when someone on his panel referred to Reagan as a class B actor. Tweety insisted that Reagan was not class B because Death Valley Days was hugely popular. I kept thinking about Bedtime for Bonzo.

Some "liberal media" huh?

From Pensito Review:

Fred Thompson Worked as a Washington Lobbyist for 18 Years

Posted by Jon Ponder | May. 31, 2007, 6:31 pm

There’s fresh word today that Fred Thompson will announce in July that he is getting in the GOP presidential race. Coincidentally, here’s a bullet point on his resume that was news to me:
Over about two decades of lobbying (during which he also acted and practiced law), Thompson made nearly $1.3 million and represented clients including a British reinsurance company facing billions of dollars in asbestos claims, Canadian-owned cable companies, and deposed Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, according to government documents and media accounts from his first run for the Senate in 1994…’There’s nothing wrong with lobbying. It’s an honorable profession,’ Thompson spokesman Mark Corallo said…A year after stepping down , he registered to lobby for British reinsurance company Equitas Ltd. The company paid him $760,000 to guard its interests against several bills seeking to protect businesses from asbestos lawsuits.

And:

Critics point out that Thompson’s aw-shucks, shit-kicker populism is more than a little bit phony. That he spent 18 years as a registered Washington lobbyist, doing the bidding of such high-powered clients as General Electric and Westinghouse, pushing for the passage of the deregulatory legislation that led to the savings-and-loan crisis of the 1980s.

Conservatives have been hailing Fred as the living incarnation of St. Ronnie, but “Republican lobbyist” has become synonymous with “D.C. call girl,” thanks to Jack Abramoff and his merry band of pranksters and murderers.

If I see another thread about his 40-year-old "child bride," I'm going to :puke:

Particularly, when one considers Dennis Kucinich and his wife and/or Keith Olbermann and his 23-year-old girlfriend. Makes us look like a bunch of hypocrites.

This is much more substantative information about the person that I personally think will be the Republican nominee.

Now, whether we can get the media myna birds to talk of this at all is another thing.
