CASEY JUST SAID AT LEAST 25,000 TRAINED IRAQI SOLDIERS KILLED!
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 01:30 PM by berni_mccoy
During his testimony to become Army Chief of Staff, General Casey just said out of 135,000 Iraqi soldiers and police the U.S. Military has trained, at least 25,000 have been killed.

Now that would certainly throw off the numbers on IraqBodyCount.org and gives more credence to the fact that about 600,000 Iraqis have died since the war began.

1. Are they being counted as enemy dead or friendly dead?

3. Who knows if they are being counted... he used it as an excuse as to why they haven't
met the Military's training goals.

6. The response was to a question about meeting goals and why the Iraqi's aren't
stepping up to protect themselves. Don't remember who asked it.

14. If it included wounded, and they have normal percentages, that's about 8000 killed
which seems more reasonable but much higher than I had thought.

If 25000 is all hors de combat including desertions, that's not surprising at all

18. I wonder if Iraqi wounded are treated as well as U.S. Wounded
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 02:59 PM by berni_mccoy
Are they taken to U.S. military hospitals or do they go to Iraqi hospitals? I would suspect that the mortality rate would be higher among Iraqis. Furthermore, you have to wonder about the long term care of these Iraqi's after sent home from hospital. And if it was partially a wounded number, then they were wounded to the point that they could not return to duty (otherwise he wouldn't have used that number).

20. My estimate was assuming they were not
roughly 2 wounded casualties per fatality is "normal" for the past few hundred years; our proportion of dead to wounded is much much lower (we save more of our soldiers than any military has been able to before).

11. To be decimated means
to lose 10% of your fighting forces. This is the point at which an army becomes demoralized.

This is almost twice the number of losses.

13. What's worse, historically the losing army has lost 12% or so in a lost campaign
This is 18%; that's Napoleon-in-Russia or Lee-in-Pennsylvania levels.

16. iraq body count knows that their numbers are a fraction
of those actually killed. the lancet study that said 600,000 was very well done, and is quite reliable.
