Was "upper lower class" kid in Philly ... went to public school and a protestant church ... played b-ball in a Baptist Church, my best friends were all Catholics ... went to a Jesuit University, then grad school in TX.

Got a good job in DC, got married, moved to NC. Made good money, saw my 401k climb. US leading peace efforts around the world. Peace breaking out all over. Had 2 kids.

Its the year 2000. And the world looks so bright I gotta wear shades.

Then GW became President. 911. Had 3rd Child. Iraq. US economy shifts BACK to defense and oil from INFORMATION. Right wing wants to teach my kids about THEIR SCARY GOD. Our government starts to focus on imposing a narrow set of right wing morals on everyone.

Started to donate to the Dems. Started to read everything I could on current political situation, potential futures. Started quizing friends on same.

Started to read and post on a few message boards.

And recently found DU. I think I'm up to ~8 posts ... I still have a long way to go :-)

Seriously, I am here because I searched and searched the internet for a place that wasn't right wing, and I (thankfully!)found this place. I lurked for years and then finally decided to enter the fray and throw my .02 into the maelstrom (what little I have to contribute, anyway).
Before I found DU I was filled with despair over the future of our country. Now I have a little hope that we can correct the horrible mistakes our "leaders" have made. Thank You DU!
