Hey, Heads Up for the Kennedy Center Honors 12/29/09 9pm~CBS
:)
"The Kennedy Center Honors (CBS, tonight, 9 ET/PT) is unfailingly the classiest of the awards shows. Tonight's two-hour broadcast, however, also happens to be phenomenally entertaining, thanks to an impressive, eclectic mix of talent on stage and among the honorees: Robert De Niro, Dave Brubeck, Mel Brooks, Grace Bumbry and Bruce Springsteen.

The evening kicks off in high style as Meryl Streep salutes De Niro with the kind of insight only another great actor could provide. De Niro's segment is followed by a musical tribute to jazz great Brubeck that concludes with one of the event's most touching surprises. Watch for the delight in Brubeck's eyes; it's contagious.

Next up is a medley of Brooks' songs led by Harry Connick Jr., Matthew Broderick and Glee's Matthew Morrison (Springtime for Hitleris included, but not, alas, I'm Tired), which leads, in one of the night's more interesting juxtapositions, to a soaringly gorgeous Tosca aria from Angela Gheorghiu in honor of Bumbry. And just when you think the night can't get any better, John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge and Sting bring the house down doing Springsteen hits — a segment introduced by a funny yet eloquent Jon Stewart. All told, an Honors not to be missed."

Tonight PBS will air the "Kennedy Center Honors". It's always a star studded evening with top shelf talent. I wouldn't miss it!

From 1978 until 2002, the ceremony was hosted by Walter Cronkite. Since 2003, it has been hosted by Caroline Kennedy.

Recipients to be honored are: writer, composer, actor, director, and producer Mel Brooks; pianist and composer Dave Brubeck; opera singer Grace Bumbry; actor, director, and producer Robert De Niro; and singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen."

talented creative people being honored in the Kennedy Center where President Obama and the First Lady are laughing and smiling right along with them.

The whole show!

What a line up. Jazz, opera, comedy, rock and a great actor. The best.

It was good to see Mel Brooks. What a cutie!

Angela Gheorghiu singing Vissi d'arte brought tears to my eyes.

And Sting had me dancing around my studio like a crazy woman! hehe

28. That's one thing I'm really liking about the Obama administration,
the reintroduction of the arts!

I know some people may thing it's a waste of time, or trivial, but for me, a life without the arts is a half-lived life.

How great it is that your daughter is getting paid to do what she likes!

The Slaughter Project is in St. Louis, right? http://www.myspace.com/theslaughterproject

My son just got a job at the Esalen Institute in Bug Sur. He has been unemployed since his post grad work in computer engineering. Now he's heading in a new direction, one he has been interested in for years. He thought he had to go for the big bucks like his dad the ceo, and not be a starving artist type like his mom. He finally decided to follow his bliss, and is feeling better about his life.

Big Sur and Big Sur it was to me. I hiked 17 miles along that Highway 101 in the ealy '80's..summertime and I can still see the cliffs with the wildflowers sloping down the blue Ocean and white waves capsB-)

40. I went on a 2 and 1/2 month camping
trip through the Northwest from where I was living in California(Oregon, Washington-your lovely state, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana) and even Canada and had one of the best times of my life.

I'm an East Coast girl now but next year I fly back to Kaua'i for my retirement years.B-)(If all goes well, of course.)

35. Congrat on your Son! Passion should lead the way.....
Although I'm a frustrated writer who actual works as a accountant! :(
I hate it!

But yep...my daughter's now living in St. Louis, her first year of 6 years in a PHD program
at WASHU; youngest one in the program.

I'm really happy that she's getting to follow both of her passions.
Unlike her sacrificing mother (I'm just being a good martyr),
she's got the world by the tail.

Frenchie..that's beautiful news!

That was the best production last night..I never watched it during the bush years and before that I was on Kaua'i and didn't even have a tv.

So it was my first time watching the Kennedy Center Honors..Caroline was so gorgeous and they had the Dedicated to Edward M. Kennedy on the screen.

and I watched it twice; once alone, and once with my hubby.
At first he didn't want to watch it, but I forced him.
Said....hey, that was a good show, I didn't think it was going to be.
He likes the "Law and Order" and CSI stuff,
so this was not his daily standard fare.
