Outlook improves for 2010 economy - dems will begin to reap rewards...
Stock marked slightly over 10500, GDP up slightly, but it's a trend, consumer spending up, jobless rates LOWEST IN 15 MONTHS, and this is a solid trend. Predictions are that the stumulus bill will start to kick in in the first half of '10, and that jobs will grow slowly but steadily. I believe the Dems will benefit from this in the election in '10, and the ecpected GOP gains will not happen. They will continue to lose seats, and stop being the "party of NO", becoming the "party of OH, NO!!!!"

Just my opinion, of course.

1. I am convinced in many ways elections are all about the economy
To a large percentage of the population that is the ONLY issue they care about.

2. The trends have been good lately
Let's hope they stay positive - good economic news speaks louder than "NO!"

3. I hope that you're right.
If we could pick up a few more seats, it would take the edge off of Nelson, Lieberman and the rest of the gang of (is it still 6?).

4. Hoping you are correct about the
economic up turn. Many economists agree.

5. Everything I've seen has said job growth
will be slow. Painfully slow. Even if they (economists) are overstating the situation, lack of job growth will take the shine off an improving economy.

Just being better than the republicans is, unfortunately, not good enough for some reason. Democrats have to perform MUCH better, and much better very recently, than the alternative to win.

Sorry to be a downer. I am hoping something unforeseen will reverse the situation.

6. Hard to say......you are correct.
but we must say the trends are good, and hopefully the money for small business will be passing congress soon.

Problem is congress is so slow at getting any passed....it's worse than pulling teeth!

7. Because the GOP is actively resisting ANY POSITIVE CHANGE
whild Obama is in office. I have seen posts by RWers elsewhere stating they will remain unemployed, buy as little as possible to get by, contribute as little as possible to the economy. Some say they will deliberately not hire any new workers, just so they are not adding to good numbers for the Democrats. Crazy haters.

I remember the GOP campaign slogan "Country First" - maybe they have another country in mind.

8. I guess my economics professor was wrong
He always said people behave rationally all the time. I thought he was crazy. The number of people who will hurt themselves to hurt the Obama presidency proves me correct.

11. I had a socialogy professor who said there was no such thing
as a unique individual. I took a lot of guff from him, but at the end of the year he told the class that I had proved him wrong because I was a unique individual. Don't know if he meant that in a good way but I really didn't care. Perhaps I was just not being rational. ;)

12. As an artist, I find rationality is not always a useful character trait.
As a human, I find it is not always even a consideration. We are not at all the people we like to think we are, which is our saving grace.

9. What I find interesting is that the RWers accused Obama of hurting the economy
by describing the crisis in a negative manner. Now those same people go out of their way to spread gloom and doom.

10. while this is something that I really believe to be true,

because I can already "see" the ship slowly turning, what worries me the most is the desperate idiots who will do anything to ruin it, because of hate, jealousy, etc. It's like we are in a "civil war" here in the US. It's exhausting, but perseverance is what this country was founded on, not fear.

Makes me glad for a group like this:)

13. It actually IS a civil war, and if you have the stomach to investigate some
seriously RW websites - which I won't list - you may be shocked to find that some of them are preparing to take it to the level of violence, not just rhetoric. They are playing economic games, and trying to do all they can to hinder any progress we are making out of the Bush regime/GOP hole we are in simply because they HATE us.
Remember their campaign slogan, "Country First"? They lie, they lie, they lie.

14. Actually there is some truth to this. The stimulus will kick in around late April/May
There's a huge push to get money, big money, out of the different government agencies and into projects and jobs. However, it's taking time and it's not being helped by private companies who are gouging.

The website showing immediate stimulus results (with non-existent congressional districts!) and the redefining of jobs not lost as jobs created by the stimulus are NOT helping, however. These are political games that should have been stopped because they took away from the real benefits the stimulus will have.
