I am not as strong as some of you.
I support President Obama... I've been pretty quiet about my thoughts on Obama, but the cat is out of the bag now so to speak... how will I do it?

How do YOU do it? There is so much negativity on DU.

4. I understand, Texasgal.
I get so upset reading posts in GD and GDP, I just don't have the stomach for it any longer. So, I'm hanging out here and in a few of the other smaller forums on this board. I was in an abusive relationship once, and looking at some of the posts and responses in those two main forums makes me feel I'm back in it. I decided once I got out, there was no reason to put myself in the way of that stuff again. That goes for DU, also. I have decided to just stay away from it.

5. Amazing that supporting a Democratic President on a Democratic site
...is so anxiety inducing.

How to do it? Pick you battles. Put the most outrageous posters on ignore. Count to 10 (that's my rule so that I have time to erase stuff I might regret)

7. Exactly
Earlier today I left a comment supportive of the President and came back to find that of course it had been attacked, but I had to laugh because while the haters were slamming away with steam rolling out their ears I was off eating home-made Christmas cookies. Their rage had no meaning in the face of a good sugar high. They can't do anything but scream.

Lots of intense navigation learned over the years.. and I didn't have all these posters on Ignore for 10 months but finally the monotonuous hate got too predictable and zap they went.

Happy to see you here, Texas Gal, and as everyone knows..the more the merrier. Pretty soon by SOTU..we'll have a huge membership in here.:D

17. An observation on those who are "so upset" by the HCR bill, very few seem to do anything other than
complain. If they really wanted to do something productive they would let their representatives know what changes they would like in the HCR after it becomes law. Instead, a many take a defeatist attitude and essentially give up.

As far as the MSM and talk by some that the Democrats will lose badly in 2010, don't count on it. Let me put it into perspective. We have about a 50 seat lead in the house, and a good lead in the Senate. It would be a major long shot if we lost the majority, it won't happen.

Also, one year to the next election is a long time, and a lot of things can happen. If the economy starts to improve, and more people are going back to work, the republicans most likely will lose some seats

I do not believe that the republican strategy of saying no to everything is going to resonate well with the American people

I can't allow myself to get hooked into doing battle with these hateful asses. It wrecks havoc with my mental and physical state. Right now my blood pressure is sky high (226/124) AFTER doubling my meds this morning.

I'm taking a break from even reading GD and GD-P. It's life threatening.

23. Girl, just say what you think! We've got your back.
The thing about some of these folks that are the most vitriolic haters is that they aren't really saying anything.....not anything that can't totally be torn apart, because hurling labels, calling names, taking cheap shots, or coming with opinions not backed by anything expect for speculative "What if" cynicism does not a debate make.

So when someone posts an article in where they are attributing the Obama Admin with fault, go the the link, read the article and see if there are other articles out there providing more details. Changes are you will find that the poster only posted the part of the article he/she agreed with, and that there is more to the article than meets the eye on first glance, or that it comes from a bias source who like whomever posted the article wishes that this administration should fail.

Here is how I responded to a poster that basically was essentially saying that I'm nothing but head cheerleader (give me a dollar for each time I have been called that, and my behind would be rich!):

you have your take on me, and that is your take.
Unfortunately, giving this President some slack
and keeping a level of respect for him is something that
I haven't seen much of on these boards long before
health care was even an issue. So I strive that much
harder to keep a cool head, read the bills, the newspaper articles,
etc....and question their sources before I question the President
(he has been found to be honest more often then the media has,
that's for sure).

So yeah...you are correct, that I have posted on this Democratic Board
as a supporter of this Democratic President quite consistently...
and because there are more than enough critics about everything he does,
although the threads where most could agree he's doing good are summarily ignored,
I've got his back.

"You are the ones that you were waiting for" meant something to me
when I heard it, and my position is to push AND support this President...not doing just one.

So it is simple; I do not feel compelled to take a shit on this President for each of his decisions at this time, even when I don't agree. Certainly there have been more than few times,
where I have disagreed with the tactics/strategy employed by this President, but when I do,
I don't hang out my dirty laundry out repeatedly for everyone to see.....cause my objective is not to deride, distrust, or denigrate this President....it is simply to get fucked up shit from the last administration undone, and get some positive shit done.

And no, I'm not a promoter....I am a true blue Democrat who lived through 8 years of brutal GOP administration, and I ain't going back there ever again no matter what. I have children, and
I want for them the best that I can affect, and I don't believe that my best is to sit on the Internet stomping my feet saying nasty things about the President that I just helped elect just cause I can. I don't want to teach anyone a lesson or be proven right, or none of that self serving bullshit.....I just want what I can to get going in the right direction, and then I want some more.
Those who don't like my approach can sue me, but I'm quite sane and literal.

25. you do not have to follow the negativity...it has only been 11 months
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 05:10 PM by dcsmart
We have 3 more years, hopefully 7.....Most of this reaction is knee jerk. it has no value in that it is not reasonable or supported by facts. Rising above it means being patient and supportive to a vision that the Dems are working toward. Do we need to respond to the negativity on this site, or should we try to bring others into this group who need a place to think rationally and support the party. I was invited here by email. great thing. that is what needs to happen. Are our comments going to change the minds of other DUers or should we be building a place were others can work together toward common democratic goals.

So I don't go there. I actually do have feelings and they occasionally get hurt, even on a message board. Despite my efforts to grow a thicker skin I finally decided just not to go where I'm not wanted.
