What does this remind you of?

No it isn't President Obama in another reconciliation attempt with Republicans.

It is from the Bangkok Post and shows a very similar situation where Prime Minister Abhasit (avery Obamaesque politician( tries to negotiate with the red shirts (a very tea partyesque group of folks).

2. The Prime Minister is trying to end the protests through compromise

Taksin the deposed prime minister wants to provoke violence and return to power because he had a $ 3 billion dollar judgement against him and the government has frozen his assets.

Taksin has publicly stated that if he returns to power he will share the money he gets back with the redshirts.

Taksin passed some rural poverty measures that sounded good but were not financed so some progressives think that he is good and that the redshirts are rural reformers - they are not.

Taksin was involved in massive human rights violations including 2,000 murders by police of suspects 'shot while resisting arrest' (something that never really happens in Thailand).

Here is an example of Taksin's handiwork

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tak_Bai_Incident

Here is what Human Rights Watch said about Taksin

In the first three months, Human Rights Watch reports that 2,275 people were killed.<72> The government claimed that only around 50 of the deaths were at the hands of the police. Human rights critics say a large number were extrajudicially executed.<73><74> The government went out of its way to publicize the campaign, through daily announcements of arrest, seizure, and death statistics.
