Rep Murtha has passed on.. RIP
I know John Murtha was not a perfect man.. he had his issues .. but I will never forget his standing up and taking the heat in the fight against the Iraq war. Go in peace John Murtha.. your work here is done.. We will all see you again some day.

This is from Rep Murtha testimony in 2007 on the Iraq war

In order to restore international credibility, I believe it is necessary for the U.S to completely denounce any aspirations of
building permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq; I believe we should shut down the Guantanamo detention facility; and we
must bulldoze the Abu Ghraib prison. We must clearly articulate and demonstrate a policy of "no torture, no exceptions"
and directly engage countries in the region with dialogue instead of directives. This includes allies as well as our
perceived adversaries.

3. I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to attend a town hall he co-chaired here in NY.
I remember him standing at the entrance to the building, warmly greeting everyone -- very tall and sturdy -- very charming. In the midst of the meeting, a guy wearing a bandana strode to the middle of the aisle, pointed his finger at Murtha, and at the top of his lungs screamed "War criminal! War criminal!" The audience started to shout back at him, but Murtha said quietly -- "No, no. He has a right to speak...." Eventually, the guy wore out his tonsils, disappeared to the back and the meeting carried on.

Sy Hersh had just come out with his article detailing how Bushco was planning to bomb Iran, and one of the questions from the audience was about the fear of this happening. Murtha again spoke quietly, but very, very firmly "Bomb Iran? No. It will not happen. That is not going to happen."

God bless him. His passing is very sad news.
