(I'm in Utah, a red state, so I'm trying to appeal to my demographic)

Misinformation about health care reform.

America spends more for health care, per person, than any country on earth yet we rank 37th when in comes to quality of care according to a last survey conducted by the World Health Organization. We die at a younger age than people living in countries with "socialized medicine" like England and Canada where they pay half what we pay for health care. Health care costs now account for 16% of our GDP and are expected to reach 20% in the near future. In comparable countries it is 8%. Employers can no longer pay the cost of health insurance for employees and stay competitive in the global market and only the very richest among us could pay the $12,000 annual premiums.

Tort reform has been tried in several states, including Utah, and accounts at most for only a 1-2% decrease in health care cost overall. That is not a solution.

The Senate health care bill is similar to what the republicans put forward during the Clinton era but not one republican will support it now. Pass health reform now and add a couple of years to your life.

In California Anthem Blue Shield is raising individual health care premiums
by 39%!

As a self employed individual, that is a disaster!
So I'll be pointing this out!

I'm gonna end with something to the effect of:
Pass the damn health care bill and stop being afraid of "Change".
You can't vote for it, and then start acting like you didn't really want it!

7. thanks for the kudos. It's very easy to write a letter to the editor these days. They take email.

it's as easy as posting on DU. At least for my paper. They have an email addy for letters to the editor. I've only written one before this one and they published it so it doesn't seem like a waste of time. If they publish it and just one person looks at the numbers and says "THIRTY FUCKING SEVENTH????? Ive been told my whole life that the US has the best health care! What's up with that." I'll be happy.

I tell people that number all the time and no one believes me. But the National Geographic did a graph last month on life expectancy by country and how much each pays for health insurance. Wish they'd publish that on the front page of every papers.

here's the graph in case you missed it. It pisses me off NO end to hear the likes of Sarah Fucking Palin talk about death panels and socialism knowing Canadians and the French will outlive me by three years! Maybe they are just to anxious to get to heaven.
