'Watch as David Martin gets zapped by a ray gun - a non-lethal weapon that could be used to disperse crowds and could save many lives in war zones. Martin's report airs Sunday, March 2, on 60 Minutes.

'A ray gun that can blast out intense heat to control rioters and disable terrorists '

"An unidentified airman looks over the military's Active Denial System, a non-lethal ray gun that was demonstrated at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. The system shoots a beam of energy that makes people feel they are about to catch fire."

'The device, which is mounted on a Humvee and uses a large bullet-proof dish antenna, has cost $60 million to develop over the past five years.

Raytheon, the company which worked on it, hopes to create a multi-billion-pound world market.

The US military said more than 10,000 people had been exposed to the weapon since testing began 12 years ago.

There had been no injuries requiring medical attention during the five-year advanced development programme.' more http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/11/18/wdenial218.xml

"More than 10,000 people had been expose to the weapon"??

Um, which 10,000 people?

11. People in the Military
Most likely a large number of the 10,000 that have experienced this were in the Military. Remember Nuclear testing? A large number of personel that were tested for the effects of nuclear radiation in the 50's were in the military

18. Proabably tested on 10,000 young, fit people

Not on the elderly. Not on children. Not on people with metal implants or pacemakers. And you KNOW that they'll only be using these things in CROWDS of people - demonstrators.

If they could demonstrate that it's harmless by firing it at Dick Cheney, I'll be convinced that it's "harmless".

3. This is what our gov't thinks of us
Since shooting us is considered media kryptonite, they'll do this instead if we riot. Then they'll arrest us and we'll never be heard from again.

Not even the fire hoses this time.

10. Exactly,that's also my concern "has the potential to cause panic and deadly stampedes"

:scared:
' People hit the pain waves and don't know which way to run'

Peace activists march down Broadway in New York
protest the war in Iraq.

Dr Steve Wright
Leeds Metropolitan University
"What happens when people are in the first rows of a dense crowd and cannot flee?" asks Dr Steve Wright, associate director of Leeds Metropolitan University's Praxis Centre, which studies conflict resolution technology.

"How do subjects exposed from a distance know where to flee from the beam?

"People hit the pain waves and don't know which way to run."

Such a weapon also has the potential to cause panic and deadly stampedes, Dr Wright says.

He is also concerned that America is developing weapons of "tuneable lethality" whereby "you can tune in the amount of pain the weapon provides, from heating to death". :tinfoilhat:

9. If it is microwave radiation, and I think it is.
it also has the effect of making males sterile for about a month. If you were to wear a suit made from copper mesh it should protect a person from the effect.

15. That could be a good thing.
If we could make all males sterile for about a generation, we'd make a vast improvement in this place.

Most of the really horrible problems in the world today are caused, or at least exacerbated, by overpopulation.

I don't think this is a microwave. I think it is a concentrated beam of heat. It is like standing too close to a raging campfire, except that it is controlled with a concentrator that allows it to be focused for longer distance and aimed with some precision.

13. annnd ... what else could this non-lethal weapon be use for?
oh, yeah, non-lethal, sure ...

here you are driving down the street with the family on your way to a birthday party, kids giggling in the back seat, not a care in the world and then "Z-Z-ZAP"! you feel like a lobster dropped in a pot, careen off the road, plow into a pole and die in a fireball of death ... but it's okay, it's a non-lethal weapon - and let's see that little whore-bait journalist get strapped down and take it before he gives-up his relationship with Larry Graig or anyone else proposed? Who needs "water-boarding"? After all, its a non-lethal weapon. Taser II. Or do you think that 1/64th of your eyeballs being exposed to this isn't harmful? Or being trampled to death in a crowd of protesters trying to get away from the pain ... non-lethal ... look! no marks! how can it be torture?

and I keep waiting for the obvious that never came, "... and it will come in handy for the hoards of homeless and hungry that will soon fill the streets ..."

and oh, the timing ... I'm telling ya' - what with the gas prices, wheat prices, and all basic commodities sky-rocketing and becoming scarce, give it about 2 to 4 months down when the reality of the situation sinks in ... look, I live in New Orleans, I've seen what the do with lethal weapons ... 2 to 4 months ... tops - this damn thing was brought out now by your friendly corporate media as a warning to anyone that even is thinking about protesting

it's almost here ...
