:hi: i suppose the upside is that there will be no change whatsoever so long as portfolios brimming with fossil stocks remain un-maturated so there's that, and oil fields remain drill-able/extractable atop speculated or proven reserves, 'they' are not going to simply walk away from such obscene profits...it's just not going to happen; although the money spent on the iraq war alone would have made a tremendous contribution toward that end and yes i know: oil execs running the country are not the answer, still...
insofar as the generation of electricity, such as you & i are using this moment to converse here a bit on the subject,
that can be accomplished via a host of means and does not per se require 'oil' when all you need to do is spin a turbine, catch some sunshine & store it :thumbsup:
i won't bore you with the tick-list, but the means for doing so have been known for quite some time, and where i live the utility offers tax incentives for the inclusion of renewable technologies into new construction, or the upgrading of residential-commercial & industrial properties though the march is slow i'll give you that, plus as you can see...

we drive a Focus, it gets great mileage and was just smogged yesterday at well less than CA emission requirements in every category surprisingly so, but i still see more & more hummers & SUV's on the roads every day so while i understand the sales template of americans as being predicated upon vanity (never underestimate the power of peer pressure/vanity), i can't vouch for the validity of the value systems of others :(
