The World According to W: 1984 had new-speak. We have Bush-speak.
Rhetoric designed to obfuscate reality and to quell dissent.
And in our third story on the Countdown, the country was treated
to a full forty five minute display of it this morning.

2. If Bush had brains, then I would think he has become a genius at self-parody
That looked like a parody of a presidential press conference by a polished stand up comic.

How could Johnny Carson have made fun of that? No professional clown could have looked more ridiculous in parody of Bush than Bush looked himself at that press conference Thursday morning.

3. Why can't Bush say it?
I think his approval rating would go up a percent or two if he'd be honest and just say he wants telcoms to spy on Americans.

That would take 5 seconds. Instead of 45 minutes saying the same thing.

At least that would waste less of our time.

Then we could decide. Should the President's role be to spy on us, or to prevent spying on us? Hmmm....

Just be simple and honest, and then let us decide.

5. Or at least
"We must monitor the activities of the groups that may be planning attacks on America. This is a world of integrated communications. It is impossible to do that job in today's communication systems without also tapping into communications of good law-abiding American citizens. I will work with Congress to develop the necessary control so every American can trust that there will be no abuse of this activity."

Yeah, like that's going to happen.

6. re: simple and honest
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 08:23 AM by MindMatter
He definitely has the simple part down. His problem is on the honesty side.

When the person in the most powerful position in the world is simple and dishonest, that is about as bad as it gets.

Would we be better off with a smarter dishonest President? Somebody like Putin?

7. This is indeed hard to believe in these times. That we have a president
with his finger up his goddamn ass. That second hand smoke will get ya every time.

Find Bush sucking it up!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the President of the United States of America.
May God help us.

His attention was focused elsewhere - like the gasoline prices of which he is completely unaware.

17. OK, that settles it, W is drinking again
Mixing up bills, slurred speech, inappropriate grinning, swaying on teh stand, this guy's loaded.

And it says something when W has become so self-satirising that Keith is just MSTing his speeches.
