FISA Bill in 30 Seconds, by Russ Feingold
by: Matt Stoller
Tue Jan 29, 2008 at 12:15:07 PM EST

Lots has been made of the telecom immunity provision in the FISA legislation. But what about the other stuff in there? A bunch of us bloggers visited Russ Feingold today, and here's how he laid out the privacy issues.

3. can do, has done, will do, and don't try to sue us... we have friends..we spy on them to
for the right price we'll sell you their secrets too.

So how come the DEM. don't have some crap on BUSH CO. yet? DO they?

How many phone call, emails, log ons do you think the BUSH and Co. have made since the Internet has been built?

SPY vs. SPY.

FISA is one thing, NOT BEING ABLE TO SUE THE COMPANIES THAT HOLD ALL THIS INFO. that's the important thing.

Remember, this illusion of a democracy is based on MONEY. Even Uncle SAM had to pay his phone bill.

NO IMMUNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Trust them
to screw you at every single opportunity.
Nothing for the good of the people comes out of Washington these days.
Bet money on it, they do!

8. Only as much as
the Founding Fathers did

I have always believed that that distrust was the basis for the Bill of Rights and that pesky Fourth Amendment

Way to go Russ :headbang:

9. K&R...On the Homeland Security Bill... November 19, 2002
http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/statements/02/11/2002B19D41.html

"I regret that I am unable to support the Department of Homeland Security bill. While this reorganization may make sense, it should not have come at the expense of unnecessarily undermining our privacy rights or weakening protections against unwarranted government intrusion into the lives of ordinary Americans...

Mr. President, we must not forget that we are having this debate because of what happened on September 11th. We need to learn from September 11th and ensure that we do not fall victim to a similar tragedy in the future. I believe that we could have given the American people a Department of Homeland Security that would ensure their safety and security, and protect their civil liberties. Unfortunately, this bill has too many provisions that unnecessarily jeopardize our basic freedoms, and I cannot support it."

10. I actually turned to C-SPAN today, and I was wondering...
...is there a trade-off being considered in the Senate?

If the Republicans back off on the economic stimulus package minimization (even R. Senator Byron Dorgan said, 'extending unemployment benefits is something that's been a part of every previous economic stimulus bill') are the Democrats expected to back off on FISA?

11. But the idiots will say, "I don't have anything to hide"
We need to emphasize that this means that all media figures, all politicians, and everyone with any power in this country is open to/is being blackmailed.
