9. Ya know, it's all your fault...
that I started paying attention to Obama. But it's his speeches that keep me coming back for more.

4. This man might be my "block Clinton" vote
but if he thinks he can reason with neo-cons I hope he comes to his senses.

5. Tax Cut
Here is the reality about a tax cut for the middle class: You can stop taxing my paycheck completely and it still would not be enough to live off of. The reality is this: We pay too much for housing, too much for health care, and too much for food and energy. It is the industries of necessity that are sucking the blood out of the middle class.

8. That's why my #1 choice is Edwards

I really think he's the candidate who will start to unravel our terrible healthcare mess. It doesn't really matter how much you cut taxes if our economy can't support this giant financial black hole that is the "for profit health care industry."

Still, if you're going to talk about tax relief, at least give it to people who need it.

1 wave his magical wand
2 Take it by force from the rich like Hugo Chavez in Venezuela which would but the country in a civil war and then the right wingers would win because they have the guns an most us liberals don't.

Tax relief or health care reform?

I don't think either requires magic or force.

Also, I don't know where you get the idea that most of us liberals don't have guns. Come down to Texas and hang with some lone-star liberals.

12. Barack is saying exactly what most of us are thinking.
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 05:12 AM by Apollo11
My feeling is that Barack Obama has grown and matured as a candidate during the past 12 months. I appreciate his intelligence, his calmness and his sincerity. I think he has the best approach to reach out to all Americans and especially to young voters (those of us who were born in the 60s, 70s and 80s), to independents and disillusioned (ex-)Republicans, to African Americans and other minorities who often in the past did not see a good reason to go out and vote.

I especially loved the last part of Obama's response:

Tonight was President Bush’s last State of the Union, and I do not believe history will judge his administration kindly. But I also believe the failures of the last seven years stem not just from any single policy, but from a broken politics in Washington. A politics that says it’s ok to demonize your political opponents when we should be coming together to solve problems. A politics that puts Wall Street ahead of Main Street, ignoring the reality that our fates are intertwined; a politics that accepts lobbyists as part of the system in Washington, instead of recognizing how much they’re a part of the problem. And a politics of fear and ideology instead of hope and common sense.

I believe a new kind of politics is possible, and I believe it is necessary. Because the American people can’t afford another four years without health care, decent wages, or an end to this war. The woman who’s going to college and working the night shift to pay her sister’s medical bills can’t afford to wait. The Maytag workers who are now competing with their teenagers for $7 an hour jobs at Wall Mart can’t afford to wait. And the woman who told me she hasn’t been able to breathe since her nephew left for Iraq can’t afford to wait.

Each year, as we watch the State of the Union, we see half the chamber rise to applaud the President and half the chamber stay in their seats. We see half the country tune in to watch, but know that much of the country has stopped even listening. Imagine if next year was different. Imagine if next year, the entire nation had a president they could believe in. A president who rallied all Americans around a common purpose. That’s the kind of President we need in this country. And with your help in the coming days and weeks, that’s the kind of President I will be.

15. Not so much
a comment on the speech as a campaign ad.

Sorry, I just tired of all the bullshit. I don't believe Obama is anything more than just another pandering politician. "Oh, look at me. Hear what I have to say"

My conclusion is we don't have a government as opposed to a criminal organization. The heads of which aren't even the real players but puppets dancing on a string and we the people are whom they are dancing on.

Both Obama and Clinton haven't got a chance of winning and yet they're supposed to be our so-called front-runner? Clinton can't win because she'd drive every damn republicon to the polls to vote against her and Obama can't win, because like it or not, this country has too much ingrained bigotry.

So once again the shell game continues and we the people are the dupes.
