1. "the denials don't kill the story"
That is the biggest problem to me - the simplistic rumors spread faster than corrections can. I have no idea how to fix that nightmare for any candidates. Other than someone making voters better critical thinkers.

2. And their goal is to get it picked up by national media. They know that
ALL the people won't fall for it, but they know SOME will. :grr:

3. downside of internet too
Things NEVER go away anymore. I was astounded when I taught college students just how poor their critical thinking skills were with respect to the internet.

Internet can be great for getting out things MSM won't. But the internet itself goes to the most money too.

4. It gets worse...
once it is on the Web it never gets lost. I received mail on Friday about Howard of Australia giving Muslims until Wednesday to leave that country. The person sending it had no idea how old - I thing over 18 months - that piece was. Howard was defeated in November and is now out of office.
Many many times I receive mail that is old and incorrect sent by people who really think they are doing a service and acting like real citizens (but most of them don't vote because ALL POLITICIANS ARE @#!$%&^*'s). They don't even really understand foreign policy and domestic policy and so are ripe for all of the disimformation that a Karl Rove is capable of.

7. I've gotten two of those horrible Obama smear emails...
I always reply to all and set the record straight. I despise those kinds of tactics. grrrrrrr....
