The underlying point. Possibly unintended. Is that beauty is manufactured.

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion with an obsessive fear of gaining weight. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation, purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs....AND IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS MANUFACTURED BEAUTY THAT MANY YOUNG GIRLS HAVE IT.

1. Fascinating!
It's a great way to lose weight, eh?

Actually, that kept me fascinated--the skill behind the metamorphizing was great. I wish I could do as well.

I don't think Photoshop allows you to make macros that size!

3. And men wonder why women have low self esteem and bad body image
I think she looked fine before. There is another site that plays on this photoshopping technique that is scary, too... http://glennferon.com.nyud.net:8090/portfolio1/index.html

The photoshopped after images are not anything that any woman could possibly achieve in real life. I am so glad I'm not a young woman these days. It was bad enough in the 70s, but at least the models back then were actually a 'normal' size, and not fake boobs on sticks.

13. She may have "looked fine" before
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 02:59 PM by Teaser
But no one is under any obligation to find attractive what someone else thinks "looks fine".

6. I learned early on
that I would never be able to be "beautiful" by the standards of the day. My bone structure is such that I would have to shave the bones of my hips to get into any clothes that aren't labeled as "Large". Now, what's funny is that, in early times, women with wide hips were prized (and survived) because the pelvis was wide enough to bear children easily and without complications. Interesting that, in colonial times, women would put padding around their hips and buttocks if they weren't large to give the illusion that they were.

8. As a full-on nerd, I'm completely fascinated by the technology
But you're right. It's implementation is hurting people and making them believe in a "look" that isn't naturally attainable. I do take some license with my photos, but I don't attempt to change the person. I do, however, often change the lighting, surroundings, play with the colors, etc... I see that as being artistic with the photograph, but the subject of the photo remains largely untouched.

12. Interesting how the face changes between
start and finish. Could almost be two girls.

Quite criminal to lose a balcony like that.

15. Here's an associated newslink from Saturday
Fat fighting, Los Angeles style.

The door opened and in she walked - as skinny as a coat of paint with show-stopping cleavage, flashing the greatest smile money could buy.

CC hopes the treatment will give her a perfectly-sculpted physique
Year-round tan, legs up to here. A Bond-girl body which had clearly been the regular recipient of sea-salt wraps and expensive exfoliations.

Yet CC's body was not quite the shape she wanted it to be.

A niggling layer of fat - virtually undetectable to the naked eye - clung stubbornly to her inner thigh, refusing to yield even in the face of a daily exercise routine rigorous enough to bring a Greek god to his knees.

Pathetic isn't it.

I'm a non-techno geek, though, so there is a lot I don't know, but MAN! Unbelievable.

if you have a graphic program. Here is a photo I manipulated last night. I din't change colors, just hair style:

Can you guess whose hair that is?

21. Sometimes, that kind of beauty isn't manufactured.
Sometimes it is achieved through exercise and healthy eating, (or inheriting slim genes).

But, I get your point. Much of the images we see are photoshopped, and aren't even reality.

She was cuter with short hair.
