Many of us know this story, but to this day there are folks who still believe that Dean actually "lost it" that evening. I thought this was worth posting for the books.

On edit: for some reason it's not playing. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxZVKAzTCT4

1. I was there.
The media has fed everyone horseshit about this event for almost four years. It's amazing what you can do with microphone levels.

You could NOT hear him above the crowd.

3. It was a media assassination.
Fuck them all.

I hope the internet destroys the career of every media bullshitter. I pray that the only job left to them is phone sex entertainers for those with the most deranged tastes conceivable.

4. Thank you for finding that video... It points up how badly the
media manhandled us at that rally.

5. Indeed it was the media choosing our candidate for us.
What a shame that we have not learned our lessens.

Russert attacked Clinton in the debate--giving her to Obama and Edwards on a silver platter and afterwards the media was constant in their criticism of her until the polls showed the change.

And just look at the media's control over us: Oprah draws huge crowds in her endorsements, but a former general's endorsement is minimized.

We are allowing the media to control us.

6. thanks for posting this
I had not seen this segment, but I understood this to be the case.

Not only is the media choosing our candidate for us in the way they frame the candidates, but they are building this up to be "a win in Iowa, or you'll drop out of the race" which is the most absurd thing in the world.

When was the last time you heard someone mention that they are expecting a great turnout in Iowa on caucus night of 125,000 - 130,000 caucus-goers! That is a tiny proportion of voters making their voices heard.

In my city, we have over 300,000 show up for an election and that is just one city, not counting the suburban areas or any other cities in the state.

Iowa is not the be-all and end-all that the media would like for us to believe!

9. This makes me sad.
It makes me sad because I supported Dean since late 2002 and was utterly heartbroken when he lost Iowa. Then to see how the media assassinated his campaign, it not only made me even more sad, it pissed me off and nearly swore me off politics for good. I think that's a big reason as to why I'm not nearly into the primary season this time around.
