Hillary has spent something like $1.5 million in ads in Iowa, Obama has spent something around $2.3 million, and Richardson close to that as well. Even Dodd, has spent $450,000 on TV ads in Iowa.

Edwards spent $25,000 back trying to prevent the May Capitulation bill and has been off the air since then. No more.

1. Sure am glad
I gave to his campaign yesterday. It was worth double the amount, and it will help pay for a good ad such as this one.

2. Edwards is MY hero. He cares about regular people.
I love the ad, because in saying what he is Edwards is pointing out that we are in this together.

11. If you are asking that question, you have not been paying attention.
Go to http://johnedwards.com/media/video/glenwood-iowa-just-say-no/ and listen to that video. If you still don't know who John Edwards is, listen to the other videos.

4. I love him - but...
don't think he should mention Elizabeth's health battles. Not because most everyone doesn't love her and care about her - but because the twisted right will say he is somehow capitalizing.

6. It's out there and can't be
taken back - they decided to go forward with the campaign after finding out about her cancer returning and I'm happy they did, because they are running the campaign they want too, without any reservations, without any spin, without any feeling of obligation to special interests because this is something they know they can't do again in another 4-8 years. The bravery of it all awes me and I wish more people (and political candidates) could be more open and candid.

18. And Just Think, Elizabeth May NOT Be Here In 4 to 8 years! I'm Sure
she's getting the "best" health care, but I'm sure many of us know someone close to them that died of cancer expectantly! In my life both of my parents had cancer and died before they got to enjoy retirement. My father-in-law died of cancer too. My neighbor's nephew died of cancer, age 39. My friend's wife died 6 month's after she found out she had it. And his father died about 3 months before that! And ALL of them felt with good doctors that they were going to pull through.

Cancer knows no color, sex, age or how much money you have. So even though it may sound like Edwards speaks about it to garner sympathy as some may feel, it could also be that he and Elizabeth know that there are far too many people who face this without the benefits they have.

And losing a son, just as he was about to become an adult is something that hurts to the core and that feeling has nothing to do with sympathy! It might be that he stopped and realized what is really important. Perhaps his ambition and drive over shadowed his family many times. He may feel guilty about that, and probably wasn't home as much as he should have been. Maybe losing someone hurt so deeply that he talks about her illness to prepare himself for what may happen with Elizabeth.

I don't really know, she may beat it and that would be great, but he has two young children who may have to grow up without their mother.

You can cry now or maybe tell me I'm a jerk... just how I feel and any harsh comments won't bother me at all.

12. When you face life and death issues, you face your deepest fears.
John Edwards allowed himself to be handled, to be told how to conduct himself in order to avoid annoying the extreme right. This time, John Edwards is not being handled. Win or lose, he is being himself. As he has explained so many times, he is not campaigning for his own glory. He is campaigning for the working people of this country, the millions and millions and millions of us who pay the taxes but are not heard in D.C. because the lobbyists pay the campaign costs of the "leading" candidates.

I repeat. John and Elizabeth Edwards are facing their deepest fears. They are focusing on what is important. Millions of Americans are now facing the same reality they face. Those millions will not judge John Edwards for acknowledging his own situation. Even more millions of Americans have faced that reality. They understand that, in the face of very serious illness, you focus on what is most important to you. There is nothing wrong with telling the stories about yourself that form and educate your own humanity. That is what Edwards is doing.

If you will recall, even the Bush campaign spoke at length about the death of Bush's sister -- a formative event in Bush's life. This is quite a normal thing to do. Elizabeth's serious illness is a big factor in their lives right now.

When I table for Edwards, a lot of people come up and ask me about Elizabeth. It is important for John Edwards to respond to their concerns.

15. Great ad..
I have to say this primary season has been tough for me to decide. I was on board with John Kerry in February 2003 so this one has been quite a bit harder to decide. I don't like Hillary and think the Clinton/Bush dynasties need to end (there's more to my thoughts on Hillary but I'm not writing to start a flame war). Obama says some things I like and makes choices of inexperience like the whole homophobic preacher incident last week.

Edwards though for the last few weeks has been saying more and more of the things I want a candidate to say.

Obviously all bets are off if Gore gets into the race because that's who I truly want to run, but considering how unlikely that seems now, I think I am ready to tenatively throw my support to Edwards...

Not the most concrete endorsement I know, but it has been ridiculously hard this time around and although what we faced in 2000 and 2004 was incredibly important, the cumulative mess Bush has gotten us in makes this the most important election... ever.

We need someone willing to talk to our enemies, willing to go to the mat for universal health care (and not just cut a corporate deal to let HMOs fuck people over, which is the essence of Hillary's garbage plan), willing to fight global warming tooth and nail, willing to stop the hemmorhaging of jobs, willing to end needless wars, willing to help our nation's poor survive and revive much needed, ignored, or badly cut social programs (thanks a lot Bush).

To me Edwards most closely fits this criteria.

We're getting close to caucus/primary time. It sure seems like it's been a long season already. I am ready to see the country rally around John Edwards.

Very genuine. The Democratic party needs to stand up for working Americans.

Couldn't be simpler or more effective.

20. I'm so ready for an Edwards nomination
I am so sick of hearing the TV hacks talk about how inevitable a Clinton win is. I would love to see an Edwards nomination wipe that smug manipulative look off their faces.

21. I don't like 60 second ads. I like 30 second spots
because the good ones have a lot of quick cuts, the message is brief but strong, and you don't risk losing people's interest.

25. Isn't this the first ad in Iowa? This is a basic message ad. Maybe the next ad will be more
diverse.

Can't do it all in one ad.

29. Reminds me of Hillary's ad about the "invisible" people
Edwards is a great salesman, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

But mentioning his wife's health problems in a TV spot makes me uncomfortable.

I don't mind if he mentions it once in a 30-minute speech.

But when he highlights it in a 1-minute TV ad, I don't like it.

As a viewer, it makes me feel like I am being manipulated.

Elizabeth is not running. John Edwards is the candidate.

He should be telling us why he should be President in 2009.

Not what he and his wife discussed in the hospital room.

Don't get me wrong, I like Edwards. I like his positions on the issues.

Not sure if he has what it takes to win the nomination.

I have my doubts about Hillary, but she is very smart.
