There’s a persistent delusion out there, that you hear a lot from people who should know better – that global warming boils down to a simple minded correlation between temperature graphs and CO2 rise. Climate deniers are sure this is true, and that if they just attack the most famous temperature graph, Mike Mann’s “Hockey Stick”, they can knock down the whole thing.

But our understanding of climate is, of course, based not on a graph, but on the radiative properties of greenhouse gases – which have been well known for 150 years, and got seriously nailed during the 1950s when the US government was working on building heat-seeking missiles that had to pick out long wave radiation at all altitudes in the atmosphere. We realized that CO2 was blocking heat – and as Richard Alley points out here, that means something.

1. It's hard to believe that so many people still think global warming is fake
including most if not all the Republican prez. candidates.

2. If actions are any indicator many dems too,. .
the heavy weather is upon us, the science is rather simple (lock yourself in a car in the sun, experience the greenhouse effect yourself), and yet the actions taken to deal with it are so tinny?

Degrowth, Relocalize, Permaculture, SlowMoney.

4. I just somone to challenge them on WHY missiles work!
That was a classic example from Cr. Alley regarding how we "know" about Co2 and atmospheric warming.

These chowderheads all worship the military and yet none of them seem to have clue 1 of what makes ANYTHING work...the entire world is one great big black box for them and the only explanation they will countenance is "Jeebus done it". I don't think an empire has been this ripe for a military takeover since the days of the Rome imploding.

Throw in the "we can do anything we want to anyone accused of 'terror' up to and including execution with extreme prejudice" and you have the ground work for a very terrifying military junta coming soon to a former state near you...
