Just saw this posted on facebook. Evidently, now there's a three hour limit on freedom of speech, at least in Texas. And if you see a group of protesters, like what they're saying and join them, you aren't allowed your three hours, your time starts when theirs did.

1. Texas Stasi.
I last saw this Texas-type police behavior in communist East Germany in 1989. In 1989, the Stasi employed 91,015 persons full time, including 2,000 fully employed unofficial collaborators, 13,073 soldiers and 2,232 officers of GDR army, along with 173,081 unofficial informants inside GDR.

Their job was to stifle any political opposition to the people in power.

God- how soon we forget.

3. Incredible! According to the 2nd video at that link, if others show up later . . .
. . . they'll immediately be in violation of a 3-hour limit?

4. Yep, that's what they said. If you join them, your three hours start
when theirs did. And when asked, they wouldn't answer how long a period of time needs to go by before you can protest again without the three hours being counted against you. This country is so well and truly fucked, and too many people aren't paying attention so it will continue to happen.

7. Here's something from Occupy Austin's facebook page [my emphasis added in bold] --->
Occupy Austin
Attention Occupiers!! For all questions/concerns regarding the 3-hour time limit on your free speech rights at the Texas State Capitol, please contact Julie Fields, Public Information Coordinator for the Texas State Preservation Board. Her direct office line is 512.463.6271. Also, her email is spbadmin@tspb.state.tx.us. Enjoy!

< snip >

Occupy Austin
From a non-occupier:: "As one of your constituents, I am writing to call your attention to a serious infringement of constitutional protections in the way that State Preservation Board rule #111.20 is being applied to members of Occupy Austin, specifically over this past weekend. A video of officers citing rule #111.20 to eject people from the Capitol grounds can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-1CNf7_GpE&feature=player_embedded. I am not a member of Occupy Austin, but I am outraged at how this rule is being used to shut down a political protest. I believe the SPB is authorized to make such rules under statue 443.018, which clearly states that such rules "may not be applied in a manner that violates a person's rights under the Texas Constitution or the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, including the right of persons peaceably to assemble." Anyone viewing the youtube video can plainly see that the rule is being used to deny legitimate, constitutionally protected political activities.

I urge you to look into this matter and stop the unconstitutional use of this rule. "

Find out who represents you here:

20. Just called Julie Fields
While a bit rude, she was informative. She told me that there was a miscommunication and that everyone has the right to assemble 24-7 at the capitol. Funny how these cockroaches flinch when they're held to the letter of the law, which they're supposed to be enforcing anyway.

Sounds unconstitutional to me... Hope it gets challenged in court. I wonder what the actual language of the law is and when it was enacted?

14. Some law makers must have watched a lot of Gilligan's Island
when they wrote that law.

I mean why 3 hours? It could be 2, it could be 4, it could be 12.

A 3 hour tour...

I can not find a time limit on free speech in the Constitution.

23. Like "3 strikes" -- they love sports inspired laws apparently
3 strikes and you're....IN!

If no protestors win the protest within 3 hours then it is declared a stalemate and you must return to finish the game, I mean protest, on another date. The game clock starts when any player arrives on the field. Players entering the game later do not reset the game clock.

21. I just made a call to Julie Fields
at the Texas State Preservation Board. She said they are currently working on a press release which will clear up the issue of "Events" (a planned event in which an organization reserves space, which cannot exceed 3 hours), and free speech/ public assembly which can take place 24/7/365. I then asked her if they would be informing the State Troopers about this newly enlightened viewpoint. She said, "Oh YES!"

Our calls have already had an impact. Thanks for everyone who paid attention, took action, and spread the word.

A "Constitutional Color of Law" Warning notice:
