www.DemocracyNow.org - Political blogger Glenn Greenwald recently wrote about retired General Wesley Clark's recollection of an officer telling him in the weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks that the then U.S. Secretary of Defense had issued a memo outlining a plan for regime change within five years in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran. Democracy Now! broadcasts an excerpt of Clark's comments and ask Greenwald to respond. "What struck me in listening to that video ... is that if you go down that list of seven countries that he said the neocons had planned to basically change the governments of, you pretty much see that that vision, despite the perception that we have a Democratic president and therefore the neo-conservative movement is powerless, is pretty much being fulfilled," Greenwald says.

I despise what is going on in Pakistan. It is one big fat failure as I said yesterday.

14. Recommendation: Read More About Postmodern Geopolitics
Obama foreign policies have continued American participation in the Great Game and encirclements of Iran and China similar to George Keenan's containment of the Soviet Union. To say that the world has changed geopolitically since January 20, 2009 would be naive at best.

7. Exactly how is Obama
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 05:14 PM by tabatha
responsible for Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, etc.?

You are dissing these people who have real grievances saying that the US is responsible for their revolutions?

People ON THIS BOARD criticized Obama for being tardy in supporting the protesters in Egypt. Now he is responsible for it?

The media has said that if it were not for Power, Clinton and Rice, Obama would not have Okayed the no-fly zone over Libya. Obama was against it; so was Bob Gates. Some neocon agenda there.

WESLEY CLARK ON TV SAID THAT IS WAS A GOOD THING THAT OBAMA HANDED THE LIBYAN ACTION OVER TO NATO.

People interviewing Wesley Clark were comparing the NATO action to Kosovo.

This blaming Obama for things he is not responsible for sounds like FR.

12. I am countering the unfact that Obama is behaving like the neocons.
in "exploiting" crises in the ME.

1. Afghanistan
3. Pakistan
Obama campaigned on trying to fix the Bush disaster in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, I do not think he has done much better in Afghanistan and Pakistan, because of too much input from the military. He should just get out. Unless there is something that the public does not know. Afghanistan and Pakistan were already conflicts when he took over.

4. Somalia
5. Yemen
The actions in all of these four countries have to do with Al Qaeda and NOT any necon plan to take over the ME.

6. A rare instance where I disagree with Greenwald
It would seem that the US and other interests were perfectly happy with strongmen in power in the ME when it suited their purpose. the last thing that many of these folks would ever want is the devil they don't know.

15. Not Obama, and fuck neocons
It's the fucking pentagon that he lets make decisions for him. He's really just a humble community organizer, but he lets the petagram take over. Not a strong leader. We have a seriously fucked up foreign policy and I don't trust Greenwald to analyze it. Half the freaking DC press are neocon "journalists" so we are so stupid to let them report their version of the 'truth'.

All that said, Obama disappoints me. Not enough balls, it's not in his DNA, so us activists will suffer under his second administration and that really pisses me off.

16. I love Greenwald, but his point is extremely weak here
what Obama has been doing seems to bear little resemblance to that neocon dream he is talking about. Obama is very firmly a realist in general.

And Greenwald fails to mention Tunisia, Egypt and now Yemen. Pretty big events and they should be accounted for in that theory of his. But they can't be. Neocons, along with Israel, had no interest in any of those regime changes.

17. Greenwald is one of the most honest, intelligent, astute and prescient journalists
this country has. Many can't handle the mirror of reality he unflinchingly digs up and holds up for all to see.

For those for whom the truth exposes, he is all that is bad in their country, which is not even close to being our country.

We could use a hundred more like him and a hundred less like Wolfie and the rest of the gaggle called M$M and their dishonest ilk.

For those who cannot handle the truth their best reply seems to be...your mother wears army boots or nanner, nanner, nanner.

Arab Muslims are doing that for themselves without our help, except in Bahrain where he helped the Sultan put the uprising down.
