At a Congressional hearing at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, Representative Darrell Issa (R) CA, told a crowd of gathered retirees whose pensions have been drastically cut, “We don’t need laws for the powerful.”

1. And again you see the consequences of not having term limits and gerrymandered districts
They have these cozy safe districts and seats in Congress for life, no wonder such arrogance runs at a premium.

2. they are "special"
Of course, the powerful are special and above the law. They act morally and ethically much more than the rest of us slobs. :sarcasm:

4. Republican ideology - What republicans agenda dictates & ultimately leads to is corporate fascism
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 04:10 PM by GreenTea
Which is complete deregulation for the corporations to do as the please, (so they can environmentally pollute, ignore worker safety, while offering nor addressing any consumers concerns or retribution for the wealth's corporations faulty & collusive overpriced products).

Republican ideology dictates only enhancing the rich & their corporations over working peoples rights & needs while republican ideology despises a government as a safety net for it's people who do indeed pay taxes no matter how much republican lie and say only the rich pay taxes. 'No laws' for the rich & powerful means what- a class difference - Who's really preaching class warfare via their ideology? The fucking republicans always!!

6. Issa is a scumbag, but you're reading his quote as the opposite of what he meant.
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 04:08 PM by TheeHazelnut
He said in the following sentence that the success of the country depends on protecting minority rights... He was saying we don't need laws to protect the powerful, we need them to protect the weak. I think the actual actions he takes are 180 degrees opposite of that sentiment and he is indeed protecting the powerful and afflicting the weak (that's why he's a Republican), but his statement is not what you seem to be claiming here.

8. Sumbag? YES, but...
ISSA surely made that remark in calculated fashion. He HAD the chance to clairfy his words in the hallway. His ducking out says it ALL.

10. I agree
We can't be like freepers taking stuff out of context just because it fits our prejudices

11. I agree. Issa is a partisan hack but
it's pretty easy to see that his remark was taken WAY out of context.

12. I wondered about that.
That was how I interpreted his statement too, and I am certainly no Issa fan. I'd be really tickled to hear him saying something that indicated his lack of concern for the less fortunate among us, but I don't think this was it.

7. They're not above the law -- they're exempt from the law.
What we don't need are congresspersons for the powerful.
