Members of a swank club look with amusement and disdain on on of the 99-percenter protests in Wall Street … while sipping champagne.

I'm sure one or more of them made "the peasants are revolting" jokes.

The men and women looking with disdain and indifference on the protesters deserve to be the face of the indifferent hyperwealthy in America today. If any of you ever read The Great Gatsby, you know that Tom Buchanan and the rest of the "Swells" in the book would feel right at home on that balcony, literally AND figuratively looking down on the underclass upon which they guiltlessly stand, thinking somehow they got up there on their own.

From the YouTube text:

Who occupies 55 Wall Street? The sprawling, historic Manhattan building is home to the Ciprion Club Residences, a private club as well as residence to Wall Street's élite.

Gathered on the balconies of this home of the rich, men in suits and tuxedos as well as women in silk dresses and business suits, casually sipped on their glasses while smiling and taking pictures, seemingly oblivious to the fight of the 99 percent.

3. If Democrats mocked a teabagger protest like that
Some Republican psycho in the crowd would open fire with an AK-47.

That's how you can tell liberals from conservatives.

7. It's actually called the Cipriani Wall Street
There is a club there, but the space can also be booked for weddings and receptions. Given that this was mid-afternoon on a Saturday, I would suspect this is why everybody seems to be dressed up and came out on the balcony to have a look (I know I would have). Are they wealthy...undoubtedly given the location, but the people on the street were taking pictures of them so why not tit for tat?

"City workers leaned out of windows and waved £10 notes at demonstrators on the streets below, who responded with jeers and shouts."

Amusement and disdain. Yes. The universal attributes of the smuggest ruling elite.
And not a single ONE of them with the simple decency to jump.

26. Perhaps is is biased. So?
Why is it that anything liberal always has to look like it was massaged into banality just to prove it was all fair?

It's media from the point of view of the masses, particularly those of of the protesters. It's the truth from that level. And, seriously, where did we come up with this fetish that everything must be without bias? Everything and everyone is biased, whether or not we like to admit it. "Unbiased" is a fantasy, a chimera, a myth. If you have a pulse, you're biased about something.

You can pretend to fairness all you want. But are you honest?

This was honesty and truth. Theres a difference between a FOX News that pretends to be fair and balanced and lies about the fact that it doesn't have a bias, and a video like this that is obviously biased but tells the truth about what it shows you. The video has credibility; FOX News has none.

wouldnt it be cool to go protest in front of their estates. they feel so safe on their balcony but the 30 of them were only 2 glock .9mm's, 2 shooters, and 10 seconds away from death, they look so smug because they think that they can threaten us with the army backing them etc and think that someone on the left would never try anything, but they should read about the haymarket rebellion in chicago

there. as much shit as people on du talk about president obama not being progressive enough, then why isn't there a million people down there and not just young people. old, young, black, white, christian, atheist, everybody that calls themselves a progressive should have their asses down there and if there where a million people down there everything would stop and people like president obama and the freakin lame ass media would not be able to ignore you any longer.

all the talking on du means nothing if there isn't any action behind it.

I would totally be there...but i am a single mom on welfare in CA and can't exactly get there....but I am wishing the movement grows and hoping that more show up...anything I can do from here is minimal i know...but it doesn't mean i am a wuss for not going.

I will continue to re-post and talk about it, I will continue to help in my own town as the developers threaten to buy up and privatize our city's services, i will call and send food...
wouldn't it be cool if we could figure out a way to connect to those who are there, and maybe 'sponsor' an individual who has boots on the ground?

and suggested the idea...

my angle is that we all know that the quantum effect of supporting individuals and offering our best vision to the cause is 80% or more of the push... the movement can swell if we put our energies together like this.

41. Well, they were (sorry), but, the true operative condition …
… is that, in the last few years, thanks to the behavior of Republicans who are never reproached for being beastly, everyone who's ever had dark thoughts, evil impulses, or indifference to those less fortunate have seen that this behavior has now been green-lit. Nobody will be held accountable for beastly behavior, so everyone's retired thier censors. Those who haven't are seen as weak chumps.

51. Oh bullshit
Wall Street didn't mock the protesters while drinking champagne.

Only a couple of people had champagne glasses, and who the hell knows what was in them...could have been ginger ale, for all we know.

The rest had what looked like water glasses with unknown liquids in them.

And the lady with the champagne glass who toasted the crowd. Does anyone know EXACTLY why she did that? Maybe she agrees with the crowd but needs her job. You know...for silly shit...like supporting a family...

But, once again, a picture or a story or a film clip gets turned into whatever people want it to be.

sigh

:eyes:
