This is the live Webcast from CERN on Friday September 23, 2011. Given the potential far-reaching consequences of the OPERA experiment --- which observes a neutrino beam from CERN 730 km away at Italy's INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory, indicating that the neutrinos travel at a velocity 20 parts per million above the speed of light --- independent measurements are needed before the effect can either be refuted or firmly established, according to a CERN statement just issued. The OPERA collaboration has therefore decided to open the result to broader scrutiny.

which also has a 5-minute interview with OPERA's spokesperson Antonio Ereditato of the University of Bern and Dario Autiero CNRS researcher in OPERA experiment.

at http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1384486
which shows the speaker and the slides at the same time.

3. Thanks;
The slides made the talk much more easier to follow, as it were. For those interested, the conclusions begin on slide 53.

Then again, for the DUers who prefer stories on deformed puppies...

5. The video can be downloaded from CERN at a different page
Edited on Sat Sep-24-11 06:18 PM by bananas
300 or 800 kbps mp4 format: http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1384486
It says the hi-res version is 1.0 GB

Edit to add: Don't know if the video shows the speakers or the slides or both.

The link in post #1 is best, it also has thumbnails of the slides.

2. This is going to be very interesting to...
see if the results can be repeated at FermiLab...If so, then someone will have to explain how/why this is. I love science!

What sucks is Christians will use this as to say "See, science has no idea what it is doing as they are always changing their story!" ...I watched a preacher one time bring out a huge stack of science books from early 20th century to present & say "Science books are always changing" & then he holds up a King James Bible from the 1800's & the Bible he was preaching from & said "This book never changes!" and the crowd responding with cheers & "Praise Jesus!"

It is SAD that so many people think this kinda "STUPID" is something to be proud of.

4. Will I have to
become familiar with the term "neutrino years"?
