1. It is unfortunate that this keeps being misrepresented.

The Bush administration,while full of terrible policies, terrible ideas, and war criminals, had nothing to do with this bill.

It was sponsored by two Democrats, including Henry Waxman. The bill was written in the language requested by the postal union.

What people keep overlooking is the wisdom of this bill - all they see is the problems it is creating now, or seeing some conspiracy theories.

The postal service is dying. It will be dead in the next 10-15 years. It's already seen a precipitous drop in mail traffic and revenue. So much so that a majority of postal revenue is no longer being generated by first class, rather mostly by package shipments.

E-mail, e-bills, e-publishing, and e-commerce have decimated what was once a market that the postal service dominated.

The point of the bill is to protect the employees of the postal service in the inevitable period when the postal service ceases to exist. Those employees will be protected by the pension dollars invested now. Yes, it looks bad on paper because of the money being placed into the pension fund, but the truth is that the daily delivery of paper mail is going to end. Accept that and move on and make plans for those diligent public servants who spent their life delivering your mail. This bill did that, and these wild conspiracy theories are not doing anyone any good.
