LONGVIEW, Wash. - Longshore workers, members of Local 21 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), stood on their picket lines outside EGT's new grain terminal at the Port of Longview here July 25 in a prolonged battle against the grain giant's drive to bust the ILWU. music: Pete Seeger "Which Side Are You On."

International Longshore Workers Union L 21 President interviewed by Doug Barnes, Freedom Socialist newspaper 8/12/11 www.socialism.com
September 8th the longshore workers again stopped the grain from reaching the terminal. They used sheer numbers to send a powerful message to the scab company EGT.

August 29, 2011: This disturbing video shows an unidentified driver plowing a large vehicle through a nonviolent worker demonstration at the EGT grain facility at the Port of Longview, Washington. The car appears to speed up as it strikes two of the workers. One of the workers is pushed several feet as the car continues moving, and the driver doesn't slow down or render aid. The driver of the vehicle has not been arrested for assaulting the workers, for failing to render aid or for leaving the scene of an accident.

1. If this dispute is still going on on Sept 19th, when I'll be visiting Washington State
I'll try to get to Longview and join my union sisters and brothers. I encourage any ILWU or IBU(Inlandboatman's Union of the Pacific-maritime division of the ILWU)members to join me if you can.

2. No Peace, No Work
A reminder that in 2008, the ILWU walked off the job and marched with those protesting the war in Seattle. The protests I go to, I stand shoulder to shoulder with my union brothers and sisters.

3.  when one follows the links you provide,
here and on other threads, a more complete context for the ILWU's actions in longview emerges, and cutting brake lines and spilling grain begin to seem like mild responses to the situation, rather than vandalism as some characterize the the actions to be.
those who want to defend EGT and the "union" scabs they have hired need to read the articles, listen to the testimony, and view the videos (especially the one where the ILWU strikers are run over by a truck) and then reassess the situation.
the ILWU has not been the aggressor in this conflict. they are the victims.
those of us with decent jobs and those who would like better jobs need to understand that the ILWU is fighting for you too.
