So what makes a healthy democracy? Some might say it's high voter turnout. As in - the more people who vote - then the more the will of the country is reflected in our government. However - over the last 50 years - the average voter turnout in our national elections is about 48% - ranking us 38th in the world - behind nations like Poland, India, and Estonia. That's why several organizations have sprung up around America with the sole purpose of registering more and more people to vote - to spur greater participation in our democracy. But Conservatives - have always been weary of high voter turnout. As notorious Republican strategist Paul Weyrich said..."I don't want everybody to vote. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down." Now another Conservative - Matthew Vadum - is doubling-down on Weyrich's message arguing that registering poor people to vote is, "like handing out burglary tools to criminals." Really?!

2. OMG. They really do hate poor people don't they?
If they want to see real criminal activity they need to look at Wall Street and K Street.

5. Conservatives Hate All People Who Are Not Rich and Powerful
That's the key. They have a psychopathic hatred for ALL non-rich people.

3. I think I understand this guy's position
IF the poor can vote with their true numbers, they will have as much if not more power then the rich who not only vote but spend lots of money to lobby. They would vote their interests, reversing the the wealth distribution that has been making all the wealth go to the top these last 3 decades.

In short, this guy is afraid the poor will do to the rich what the rich have been doing to the poor

6. Well said!
Well said!

Yeah, this dude makes it sound like it's so unfair if the poor gets to vote. Un-effin-believable!

On a side note, pretty funny how he fixes his tie as he's being introduced (1:03).

8. "in their true numbers" - many disabled persons cannot vote due
to developmental disabilities etc. I always resented that my daughter had no vote when the policies effected her more than most. I do understand why she cannot vote but if she could the it would be only justice.

4. Allowing Bankers to bribe politicains (er, I mean make large contributions to campaigns) is like . .
. . . giving tools to criminals.
