New leak near Deepwater Horizon site quickly becoming a massive oil slick

Judson Parker
Tallahassee Environmental News Examiner
August 31, 2011
Over the past two weeks, I have been closely following reports of renewed leaking in the Macondo oil field, the site of last year's Deepwater Horizon disaster (Map). First, New Orleans Lawyer Stuart Smith reported that nearly 40 ships were hired by BP to conduct a boom-laying mission over the August 13th weekend. Next, nonprofit organizations On Wings of Care and Gulf Restoration Network conducted a joint flyover of the spill site, bringing back photographic evidence of fresh oil near the site of the Macondo well. This in turn prompted reporters from the Mobile Press-Register to hire a boat out to the site, where they found massive "globules" of oil rising to the surface, creating a growing sheen on the water (you can read about that here).

Today, pilot Bonny Schumaker of On Wings of Care once again took to the air over the Gulf of Mexico, finding evidence of what appears to be a massive leak near the site of last year's oil drilling disaster.

According to Schumaker, the oil "stretched for miles" with one continuous sheen stretching for nearly 10 miles. This contradicts BPs official story, which is that "none of this is true."

It's interesting then that Schumaker reports radio communication with a ship known as the Sarah Bordelon earlier this afternoon, who claimed they were gathering oil samples for BP (Marinetraffic.com confirms the location of the Sarah Bordelon within the vicinity of the Macondo).

I see the BP shills have been out in force this post was at 4 recs now down to one!

This story was first posted a week ago from the Mobile AL Telegraph.
Rumors are that they have started spraying with Corexit (From comments on the YouTube Video)

16. Not BP
They fixed the leak. This will not be their fault, regardless of any evidence found.

22. When will their bullshit break down. They are exposing the face of greed like no other.
BP is no different than any of the other big oil companies but they are leading the way in showing us just how far greedy people will go to protect their money. Even if it means destroying the Gulf of Mexico. They are completely oblivious to the processes that actually made their lives possible in the first place. Unfortunately, we all suffer for their short-sightedness and selfishness.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Scientific analysis has confirmed that oil bubbling up above BP’s sealed Deepwater Horizon well in recent days is a chemical match for the hundreds of millions of gallons of oil that spewed into the Gulf last summer.

The Press-Register collected samples of the oil about a mile from the well site on Tuesday and provided them to Ed Overton and Scott Miles, chemists with Louisiana State University.

The pair did much of the chemical work used by federal officials to fingerprint the BP oil, known as MC252.

6. Let me guess.
Not one word about this from Washington, right? Coast Guard not called out to investigate/mitigate, right?
In the meantime, drilling in the Artic, pipeline approval just a heartbeat away? Words fail.

8. You gonna believe BP or your fucking lying eyes?
BP denies report of oil leak in Gulf
Feds probing source of sheen found recently by Coast Guard

BP issued a quick and emphatic denial Thursday after reports began circulating on the Internet about new leaks in its Macondo well, source of a massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill last year.

"None of this is true," the British oil giant said in a statement in response to reports it had deployed boats and containment boom to the well site. It noted the well was capped in July of last year, permanently sealed in September, and continues to be monitored.

The most crooked deal ever.

18. That is an ominous sign.
What it means is that the methane layer they drilled into has been fracked and is now finding a way to the surface.
And leaks never get smaller until the pressure is reduced enough....which means this could be an even bigger disaster than it was in the beginning.

19. This should be easy enough for the government to prove or disprove.
Use ROV's to monitor the well areas, and to run grid patterns using sector scan sonar, and live video feeds. If there's ANY question about those wells, they need to damn well investigate NOW!

24. OMG!!!
First of all, I'm surprised no one (eg, BP, EPA, Coast Guard, and every other duplicitous agency) tried to prevent her from documenting this travesty.

Second, where is the outcry in the M$M?!

Third, why has not our POTUS responded IMMEDIATELY to this ongoing environmental catastrophe?!?
