William A. Galston, Brookings Institution, joins Thom Hartmann. What do you do to keep your job if your employer gives you only a 14% approval rating? You avoid him or her. That’s exactly what Congress is up to during this August recess - avoiding their constituents. As the organization “No Labels” is reporting - 60% of the Members of Congress are not holding any sort of open town hall meetings while they vacation during the month of August - a vacation that's supposed to be spent talking to constituents

1. THE TOWN HALLS WORKED for repugs over Health CARE
because the tbaggers needed a spotlight, FOX needed its talking points and the paid political hacks were ready, willing and able to accommodate. The town halls from the summer of 2010 were all about demeaning health care reform, attacking Obama and winning the 2010 elections. It is not beneficial for the repugs to hold town halls this summer. Because the real grass roots are beginning to rebel against the draconian TPARTY/gop cuts to programs and pp governance.
Remember, Boehner said that the House will take every 3rd week off to meet with constituents, it is important that we keep track of such activities and keep it on the forefront in the coming months. Obama is clobbered for taking a working vacation and the HOUSE wants every 3rd week off, especially since they have only passed 47 bills since January 2010. We really need to keep score, like the clock on TIMES SQUARE on the national debt.

3. This is a really great question
I can't recall ANY place I've worked where I would've kept my job with this sort of performance review! Again, this is evidence that proves our "Reps" ignore us from the moment they deliver their victory speech on election night. From that point on, it's serving the special interests as a primary goal. Mezmerising voters to win a seat, is just a glorified shell game. :puke:

4. That was a great piece Thom!
After the organized Teabagger town hall protests during health care reform debate, I have to admit that I get a bit of satisfaction over the harassment of Republican congressmen. I know I should be above such petty sentiments but I can't help it.

6. Drove by Paul Ryan's office today
the protesters are not letting up, they are there again today and will be until he meets with them. He is on vacation now, but the news is covering it here, so it's exposure.

9. This guy's (not Thom) analysis is all wrong
It's the same old "polarity" and "lack of civility". I call bullshit!!

The problem is there isn't _enough_ "lack of civility" towards corporate robots! They need to pay heavy political penalties for being slaves to corporations and screwing the citizenry. And somebody needs to be the person dishing out the punishment.

As Thom rightly notes, it's the money in politics that is poisoning everything.
