After the stage collapse in Canada recently, it would seem that being aware of the weather and the structure's wind load rating would be uppermost in mind of those responsible for the structure.

8. What is the design wind load?

Anyone actually know what wind load the stage was designed for. Obviously not enough or was there a defect?

I used to build the type of stages that collapsed in Indianapolis last night.
Just thought I would give a little knowledge of those structures...in case anyone was curious.

First...they keep calling it "a stage collapse". The stage did NOT collapse (well it may have under the weight of the roof). The ROOF structure collapsed.

"What happened?" Well...obviously the wind took it down. But to let you know...had there been no backdrop (what we in the industry jokingly referred to, when used on an outdoor conventional roof, as "a sail")...or the backdrop had been dropped when the weather cell was first recognized as an incoming threat, that roof structure would probably still be standing. We ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS kept a very close eye on weather. A backdrop...on a conventional roof...in a storm...is screaming for disaster.
