5. "Your boy" several times.
And laughed, as he usually does when spewing his filth. Sharpton corrected him with, 'he's your president, not a boy', also several times.

8. Oh. How horrible.
It hurts on all kinds of levels. There is no way that this was unintentional. There is no way this should be overlooked. There is no way that this can be explained away as used in a different context.

Ugly.

Ugly ugly ugly.

10. he used a boxing fight analogy, and called him 'your boy in the ring'
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 07:59 AM by stockholmer
I did some searching, Buchanan (who I loath) uses the 'your boy' phrase all the time, regardless of race, many times he called Bill Clinton and others this. Is Buchanan a racist? Probably. Is the term 'your boy' a southern cultural term (albeit a loaded one in certain situations)?. Yes. James Carville (another southerner) is a perfect example of using it as well.

All in all, it is not surprising, it is depressing, and it is a tempest in a teapot of Tea-Baggery.

Sharpton himself did much damage to people in the Tawana Brawley case. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tawana_Brawley_rape_allegations

US political pundits disgust me.

4. Now that I've watched it, he deffinately said "boy" as a racial slur.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 07:39 AM by glowing
That's not just a casual "boy" term like someone would say, "that's my boy" in a generic way. I can't believe they still have this racist ass on tv still. When people like Pat get away with this shit, it validates other racists to be racist. Either move with the times and get rid of your hate, or go hide in a closet where no one has to hear your ugliness. Making Pat into the cuddly, old nutty Uncle who embarrasses you with his racist comments, but is excused because that's just the way the old codger is, isn't ok!!! Someone like that shouldn't be on tv!!! And no one that I know of is actually related to Pat on MSNBC, so it shouldn't be tolerated. It's time to start calling out the racists and the liars. There aren't 2 sides of the debate, so treat them equal. One side is lying their asses off.

6. That racist, useless piece of crap.
He called every black man he was discussing a "boy".

Pat is showing his true racist colors. What a freaking pig. I will never ever again sit through any crap he has to say.

Why doesn't Pat just simply wear a white hood to these discussion. At least we'll know where he is coming from.

9. I was waiting for him
to call Al "boy". In real time yesterday this was interesting TV.
If he called Al "boy" it would have been explosive TV. As it was, it
was a head turner while I was making dinner.

15. And it is no mistake..just another way to put "Obama" in his place.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 09:03 AM by Stuart G
and his place, is not as President.
Constant repeating of the idea... that Obama does not belong as President, is the goal.
Mitch Mc Connell is not alone..don't ever forget that..

Obama is the President with incredible power..if he goes after the corporations in his next term, (if he gets one) and that is possible,(he could do that) the corporations will have to spend billions in defence of their position, through all kinds of legal fees and advertising.

Yes, Obama could go after them, if he is President in 2013. This language and action is all about keeping Obama from getting another term.

"YOur Boy ain't no good" Buchanan is saying to Sharpton. That is almost what he said too.

17. Ah.."your boy" is not really a racist statement.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 09:42 AM by Butch350
This is blown way out of proportion.

There has been many times I've used the term while expressing
an affection for a person or thing. Like, "Hey Jim, how are things going".
That Jim is, "My Boy". (favorite person, buddy, etc.)

A lot of you know that here. I'm not a big fan of PB, but "MY BOY" does make
some good points every now and then.

Stop being a "Lynching Party". There is too much other shit going on in the world besides
PB using slang at the WRONG TIME.

I do think it is bad form to use the term, "My Boy" when referring to the President of the United States.

Back in 08 Barrack was "MY BOY".

HAND (have a nice day).

18. Well, you don't understand the implications of "your boy"..let's try "tar baby" instead.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-11 09:23 AM by Stuart G
You say, I quote exactly,

"I do think it is bad form to use the term, "My Boy" when referring to the President of the United Staes."

since you do not know, I will tell you...
Sharpton was talking, and Buchanan was referring to Obama in racist terms that Sharpton understood, get it, Sharpton is black, take a look...

and, you need to spend some time in the inner city. you will then learn about "Your Boy", and also...that..........

You are a racist too, now you know.

It is meant to be racist, ..the way that Buchanan was talking it is clear..

But I definitely wouldn't use it when referring to a President on national tv. But that's typical Pat Buchanon. :eyes:

22. Butch, in this context, coming from Pat, it is racist.
Towards the end of the clip, he also refers to Congressman Cleaver as Sharpto'ns boy. I suppose that your logic leads you to believe that it's a big coincidence that Obama and Cleaver happen to be black.

23. Ive watched PB for 30 years
I guarantee you it never crossed his mind that his choice of words was so unfortunate. Id bet that what he said would have been exactly the same if it was a white Democrat he was talking about. Its "talking politics", as he does it.

24. "Boy" -- one of those elastic slurs
Not one of those you can pull right out of the box and use, you have to stretch it a couple of times, like a rubber band to make sure it is ready to fit. "Our boys" fight for us at the front, can't be a slur there, everybody supports "our boys". "Boy, it sure is hot today", no slur there. "Hot enough to fry a &@@#'s ass" now that's a slur, whoa, is it.

Southerners take the edge off of it by calling people "good ol' boys". Pretty positive to be called one of those. "Your good ol'boy" is a lot better than "your boy". Then again "your boys" can be kind of threatening, especially when they are going to be sent over to take care of something.

No, on its face, I can't say "boy" is a slur. Depends on the tone it was delivered, like the way the Chinese distinguish the words for 'horse' and 'mother'. But we already know what Pat's tone is. I'm sure there is a thesaurus at his house with all the words highlighted that he can't use on the air. It's a work in progress and after today, he's going to have to get out the highlighter and mark another one.
