House Speaker John Boehner on Friday walked out of debt-reduction negotiations with President Obama. Facing an Aug. 2 deadline to keep the government from defaulting on its debts, Obama summoned congressional leaders to an emergency meeting at the White House on Saturday.

A deal Boehner left on the table reportedly would slash $3 trillion from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other programs for working families. Sen. Bernie Sanders had been sharply critical of that package. "Sorry Mr. President. No deal."

He particularly regretted that the president put Social Security in jeopardy. "It saddens me very much that the president is going back on his promises," he said. Sanders solution: raise the debt ceiling now to avoid default and take the debate over budget priorities to the American people in 2012. He sized up the situation in interviews with "The Situation Room" on CNN and "News Hour" on PBS.

15. Excellent point on the bogus word "entitlements"
They all do it in the entire corporate establishment, including our dear president. Intellectual dishonesty and the language of class war, the entire corporatocracy vs. America at this point.

6. How can you run a country on borrowing? We need revenues to not only pay for legislated services

but to grow jobs, infrastructure, etc.

Why can we not prosper? If we are a wealthy country because
some businesses and individuals have a lot of wealth, and we
don't levy taxes on them so we can share in their prosperity,
what is the point of saying we are a wealthy country? We have
wealthy people and businesses here, but if they do not share
in the payment of taxes, if they do not contribute to our
coffers, then why do we allow them to do business here, using
our roads, our schools, our housing market, our stock market,
our justice system? The most difficult job of a congress
person that they have sworn to is to take care of the people's
business by levying taxes. If you ask them if they want to pay
taxes, of course they say no. We don't ask, we levy. Levy
means the law demands taxes to pay for the public interests
services. Why else have a government? Why not just pocket your
money and dicker with the locals for your homes, schools,
health care and education and don't work for these businesses
anymore if this is the way they are going to play.

8. Taxes are legally and constitutionally shared by every citizen, business, and government institution
to insure our quality of life issues are advanced, not
destroyed.

We need a new set of leaders. Good ones.

These current leaders are destroying our way of life with war,
famine, crime, disease and decay/with continuous catastrophes
looming.

Talk about expenses? War is the biggest expense of all.
If the wealthy, and religions folks (Blue Dogs and Repugs)
like and want war,
make it theirs as long as their taxes pay for it.

Can we stop them from using our money? The people need their
own bank.
With high interest to reward savings accounts, so their money
makes money.
We need prosperity. We like to work and grow and learn and be
social and love and multiply and be fruitful too!

Can you do this Congressman Sanders?
Can you stop the wars if you become President?
Can you garnish the respect of the military to turn its face
toward peace keeping?
The kids are tired, but the cancer of the greedy grows fast in
the dark, from NRA hooray.
Can you remind us of our values, our privileges, and tell us
how this happened, or point us to the literature?
We are so desperately in need of leadership, sir.

10. I think Wolf Blitzer is mentally handicapped
Its like no matter how long he is on the air, he just refuses to learn anything or engage in even the most superficial debate.
